Disparities in ACL Injury and Management: The Impact of Sex, Race, and Social Determinants of Health.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is a common condition that significantly affects physical function and long-term knee health across diverse patient populations. Although outcomes after ACL reconstruction have improved, growing evidence demonstrates persistent disparities related to biological sex, gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic factors. This review synthesizes recent literature examining how these factors influence ACL injury risk and outcomes, with the goal of identifying actionable gaps and future directions to improve equity in ACL management. "I'm Always a Little Bit Skeptical": Intersex Young Adults' Recommendations for Community-partnered Health Research.

BACKGROUND: An estimated 1.7% to 4% of people in the United States are born intersex, or with congenital variations that transcend binary sex. Historically, Western medical protocols have advocated for the 'correction' of intersex variations through early surgical intervention, a practice opposed by the majority of intersex-led organizations. Stakeholder voices remain under-represented in research. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the experiences of intersex young adults participating in health research, with the goal of gathering recommendations to improve intersex-affirming research

The intergenerational legacies of research disinvestment, aid retrenchment and transactional compacts on global women's health.

Global health funding by the United States government declined precipitously in 2025, triggering a cascade of international disinvestment in women's health in low and middle-income countries, followed by a new era of 'America First' aid policy. Successive budget cuts by other high-income countries compounded the effects of these abrupt policy and geopolitical changes on women's health, safety, and access to life saving and health assuring prevention, care and treatment, worldwide. Abandonment of active programmes and research studies disproportionately harms women by disrupting employment, rev

Considering water, sanitation, and hygiene as a valuable component of harm reduction.

Harm reduction strategies effectively minimize the immediate health consequences of drug use, such as syringe exchange and overdose prevention. However, the critical role of access to adequate Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services in mitigating these consequences remains underemphasized. This paper argues for the consideration of WASH services as an essential framework within the ongoing evolution of harm reduction, particularly for marginalized people who use drugs (PWUD) facing housing insecurity and limited access to public infrastructure. Lack of access to WASH services forces PWU

Mobile enhanced prevention support for people leaving jail: examining smartphone app integration with peer mentors and contingency management for a population at risk of HIV.

The period following community reentry from incarceration is associated with elevated risks of drug overdose, HIV transmission, and other harms. The importance of leveraging mobile technology to facilitate service access has grown with smartphone use. Peer navigation has shown efficacy for individuals at risk of HIV transmission. We conducted in-depth qualitative interviews with 19 individuals assigned male at birth (all who have sex with men) who were participants in a randomized controlled trial to test an intervention combining the three above components. Three peer mentors were also interv

Seeing ourselves in anatomy: Embedding equity, diversity, and inclusivity to transform learning in a UK BSc curriculum.

Embedding intersectional equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in anatomy education is essential to reflect the growing diversity of student populations, support all learners, and prepare graduates for a more inclusive, socially responsive global workforce. Anatomical textbooks and models have typically focused on white, cis-gender, able-bodied individuals who perpetuates biases and underrepresentation, impacting learners' professional development. We embedded five workshops in the junior honors BSc anatomy curriculum, which all adopted an intersectional EDI approach. These were strongly anch

Experiences of violence and abuse among transgender women in healthcare settings in Uganda: a community-engaged qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: People who identify as transgender have a gender identity or expression that differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. Because of this, transgender people may encounter widespread stigma, discrimination, and violence, including in medical facilities. Understanding how these phenomena manifest during healthcare interactions is crucial for enhancing health equity for transgender individuals. Therefore, this study explored the experiences of transgender-related stigma and violence among transgender individuals in Uganda. METHODS: The study used a community-based qualitative p

A Systematic Review and Narrative Synthesis of Factors Affecting Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Willingness Among Black Women for HIV Prevention.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can significantly reduce human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission among Black women in the United States (U.S.), a group disproportionately affected by HIV. However, PrEP uptake in this HIV-vulnerable population is low. This review analyzes the factors influencing Black women's PrEP willingness using the Behavioral Model for Vulnerable Populations (BMVP). Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Study Design (PICOS) framework, we conducted a
