Computer based nursing documentation means to achieve the goal.

New functions have been integrated in the Giessen Hospital Information System WING to support the classification of all intensive care patients into the Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System (TISS). The use of those functions has been pushed when health insurance bodies demanded evidence for the correct classification of ICU beds. This article presents an overview on this development from the start in just one intensive care unit to the complete coverage of six intensive care units and three intensive monitoring units with a total of 109 beds. For those units complete TISS data has been docu

A Standardized Statistical Framework for Population Surveillance Using the National Health Interview Survey.

National health surveillance systems in the United States collect essential information about population health, yet differences in analytical methods often make it difficult to compare results across studies. This paper presents a clear and consistent framework for descriptive analyses using the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). The framework establishes shared definitions for sociodemographic and clinical variables, outlines methods for handling missing data, and describes use of survey weights and multivariable models. This process will generate reproducible and interpretable estimat

Governance and implementation of solar-powered digital health systems in low- and middle-income countries: a mixed-methods study from Kenya and Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Digital health systems are increasingly recognised as critical components of health system strengthening in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). However, their effectiveness is often constrained by unreliable energy infrastructure, weak governance, and fragmented implementation approaches. Solar-powered digital health systems offer a promising solution, but their scalability depends on integrated governance and sustainable implementation models. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop a governance and implementation framework for scaling solar-powered digital health systems in

Health Records Database and Inherent Security Concerns: A Review of the Literature.

The use of electronic health records (EHRs) has grown significantly in the past decade. Health information databases contain sensitive patient information, including their names and addresses, tests, diagnoses, treatment, and medical history. This information should be secured and protected from manipulation and fraudulent use by third parties. EHRs are expected to increase efficiency in healthcare delivery, improve healthcare quality, and relieve increased financial pressure. Despite these expected benefits, EHRs are potentially vulnerable to security concerns that may affect the confidential

Risk assessment of emerging infectious diseases in China under the One Health framework.

BACKGROUND: Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) pose significant public health challenges due to increasing interactions between humans, animals, and the environment. The One Health framework, an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, plays a critical role in the risk assessment of EIDs. The study aims to systematically review the risk assessment of EIDs in China under the One Health framework, covering policy support, monitoring and assessment systems, and implementation methods. METHODS: Relevant literature and official documents between 1997 and 2024 were retrieved from Web of Scien

Kangaroo mother care: a multi-country analysis of health system bottlenecks and potential solutions.

BACKGROUND: Preterm birth is now the leading cause of under-five child deaths worldwide with one million direct deaths plus approximately another million where preterm is a risk factor for neonatal deaths due to other causes. There is strong evidence that kangaroo mother care (KMC) reduces mortality among babies with birth weight <2000 g (mostly preterm). KMC involves continuous skin-to-skin contact, breastfeeding support, and promotion of early hospital discharge with follow-up. The World Health Organization has endorsed KMC for stabilised newborns in health facilities in both high-income and

Development of an online library of patient-reported outcome measures in gastroenterology: the GI-PRO database.

OBJECTIVES: Because gastrointestinal (GI) illnesses can cause physical, emotional, and social distress, patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are used to guide clinical decision making, conduct research, and seek drug approval. It is important to develop a mechanism for identifying, categorizing, and evaluating the over 100 GI PROs that exist. Here we describe a new, National Institutes of Health (NIH)-supported, online PRO clearinghouse-the GI-PRO database. METHODS: Using a protocol developed by the NIH Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS(®)), we performed a systematic

Uses of the 1980 National Natality and Fetal Mortality Surveys for the assessment of obstetric technologies.

Because of the multipurpose utility of followback surveys, six Public Health Service (PHS) agencies including the Bureau of Health Care and Delivery Assistance (BHCDA) financially assisted the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), which conducted the 1980 National Natality Survey (NNS) and 1980 National Fetal Mortality Survey (NFMS). These are called "followback" surveys because NCHS uses mail questionnaires and telephone to follow back informants (mothers, hospitals, and attendants at delivery) and medical sources of radiation named by informants, identified on Certificates of Live Bi

Food chain information systems in medium- and smallsized slaughterhouses of central Italy and organ and carcass condemnations: A five-year survey.

The flow of information between farms and slaughterhouses about animal health, is a fundamental process for modern meat inspection. The information provided by Food Chain Information (FCI) systems in medium-small sized slaughterhouses in central Italy, focusing on the data provided on the animal's health status, was performed through a five-year survey together with the number of organ and carcass condemnation for bovine, swine and ovine. The annual prevalence of condemnation was higher in bovine (from 10.49% in 2015 to 17.16% in 2019) than swine (from 6.39% in 2015 to 12.64% in 2019) and ovin

Improving Electronic Health Record Access for People Incarcerated in the United States.

Around the United States, carceral medical records are often sequestered from incarcerated patients and their external physicians, hampering the provision of both acute and transitional care. Despite laws meant to ensure better ownership and portability of electronic health records (EHRs), many carceral institutions have not implemented interoperable systems, nor do incarcerated patients have easy access to their medical information. These issues can compromise care for a patient population that experiences higher rates of many diseases, hospitalization, and death compared with the general pub

Variability in comorbidites and health services use across homeless typologies: multicenter data linkage between healthcare and homeless systems.

BACKGROUND: Homelessness is associated with substantial morbidity. Data linkages between homeless and health systems are important to understand unique needs across homeless populations, identify homeless individuals not registered in homeless databases, quantify the impact of housing services on health-system use, and motivate health systems and payers to contribute to housing solutions. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional survey including six health systems and two Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) in Cook County, Illinois. We performed privacy-preserving record linkage to

Stage-Based Model of User Engagement Patterns in an Online Health Community for Cardiovascular Disease Management: Qualitative Interview Study.

BACKGROUND: Online health communities (OHCs) provide vital peer support and health information to individuals managing chronic conditions. However, sustained user engagement remains challenging, with many users reducing activity over time despite the ongoing benefits these platforms offer. While some individuals may improve or become more knowledgeable, sustained engagement remains critical because ongoing participation fosters trust, peer support, and continuous access to evolving health information that may persist beyond initial recovery or learning. Hence, it is important to consider how c

Sexually transmitted infection trends among gay or bisexual men from a clinic-based sentinel surveillance system in British Columbia, Canada.

INTRODUCTION: We described trends for sexually transmitted infections (STI) among gay/bisexual men in British Columbia, Canada, using a sentinel site surveillance approach. METHODS: Using data from an electronic charting system, we included gay/bisexual men who visited high-volume STI clinics from 2000 to 2013. Diagnosis rates and incidence density were calculated for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis C, genital herpes, and genital warts. Incidence density was estimated among repeat testers who converted from a negative to positive test result. We also conducted Poisson regressio

Pre-travel sexual health advice for international students: exploring awareness, access, barriers, and ways to improve access in Australia.

BACKGROUND: Australia is a popular destination for international students. However, being away from their usual environment potentially increases their risk of sexually transmissible infections. We explored the awareness and barriers to accessing sexual health information and services before departure and within the first year of arrival among international students in Australia and identify ways of improving access to information and services. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews was conducted on international students enrolled at The University of Queensland in 2025, which were audio-recorde

Provincial Maternal and Child Information System in Inner Mongolia, China: Descriptive Implementation Study.

BACKGROUND: After the implementation of 2- and 3-child policies, the rising proportion of high-age and high-risk pregnancies put enormous pressure on maternal and child health (MCH) services for China. This populous nation with an increasing population flow imperatively required the support of large-scale information systems for management. Municipal MCH information systems were commonly applied in developed cities of eastern provinces in China. However, implementation of provincial MCH information systems in relatively low-income areas is lacking. In 2020, the implementation of a regional mat

Oklahoma's fetal and infant mortality review projects.

In Oklahoma, the infant mortality rate is higher than the national rate. Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) is an effective perinatal systems intervention. FIMR gathers information from medical, social, and community sources taking a comprehensive look at how well these systems are serving women and infants. It is important to understand that FIMR is a method to develop community-based plans to reduce fetal and infant mortality. It is not a quick-fix solution to a complex problem, a research study, an institutional review, or a system for assigning blame or responsibility for a death. FIMR h
