Opioid use disorder education for acute care nurses: An integrative review.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to explore opioid use disorder (OUD) education programmes presented to practicing nurses working in medical-surgical settings and identify the methods used to evaluate their effectiveness. BACKGROUND: Health professionals often express negative attitudes towards patients with OUD which can lead to suboptimal care. Education decreases negative attitudes of healthcare workers. Despite this, few educational programmes are offered to promote knowledge among acute care nurses who work in medical-surgical settings and provide care to patients with

"Just another piece of paperwork": perceptions of clinicians on delirium screening following hip fracture repair elicited in focus groups.

UNLABELLED: ABSTRACTBackground:Delirium is a complex clinical syndrome characterized by disturbed consciousness, cognitive function, or perception and associated with serious adverse outcomes such as death, dementia, and the need for long-term care. However, recognition and management of delirium is poorly prioritized even though it is the most frequent complication among patients undergoing surgery following hip fracture. The aim of this study was to understand clinicians' from orthopedic speciality perceptions in relation to recognition, diagnosis, and management of delirium. METHODS: This

Queer periods: attitudes toward and experiences with menstruation in the masculine of centre and transgender community.

Menstruation has long been viewed as an important aspect of women's health. However, scholars and healthcare providers have only recently begun to recognise that transgender men and people with masculine gender identities also menstruate, thus little is known about their attitudes toward and experiences with menstruation. A sample of masculine of centre and transgender individuals with a mean age of 30 years was recruited online to complete measures of attitudes toward menstruation and menstrual suppression and to answer exploratory questions about their experiences managing menstruation. Part

[Traditional health practitioners and epilepsies in Ivory Coast].

We report the results of a descriptive 3-month observational study concerning the experience and knowledge about epilepsy of 30 traditional health practitioners in the Ivory Coast. Most respondents were men over 30 years of age. They had an average of 14.3 years of professional experience. More than half of respondents (54%) had not attended school. All traditional practitioners knew that epilepsy was a brain disease. For 83.3% of them, the disease was supernatural, due to a curse. These traditional healers knew all the clinical manifestations of generalized tonico-clonic seizure. For over 72%

[Attitudes towards cadaveric organ donation--results from a representative survey of the German population].

The increasing deficit of organs causes a drastic decline in the quality of life and survival of numerous patients in need of a transplantation. The purpose of this representative community study was to survey attitudes toward transplantation in the German population and to identify underlying determinants. Unlike previous surveys, fears and concerns were elicited based on a concrete case vignette. Among the 1,002 participants, 90 % were in favour of organ donation in general; 21 % reported having signed an organ donor card. Consent to organ donation was associated with younger age and higher

Assessment of knowledge, attitude, and practice related to epilepsy: a community-based study.

Religious and sociocultural beliefs influence the nature of treatment and care received by people with epilepsy. Many communities in Africa and other developing nations believe that epilepsy results from evil spirits, and thus, treatment should be through the use of herbaceous plants from traditional doctors and religious leadership. Community-based cross-sectional study designs were used to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice related to epilepsy and its associated factors by using a pretested, semi-structured questionnaire among 660 respondents living in Sululta Woreda, Oromia, Ethio

Perceptions and concerns regarding medical exposure to ionizing radiation in women of reproductive age: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Ionizing radiation plays a fundamental role in clinical practice for diagnosis and therapy. However, patients with reproductive potential, including women of reproductive age who may be pregnant or become pregnant in the future, often report limited knowledge and increased anxiety regarding these procedures. Although medical exposures involve inherent risks, when examinations are appropriately justified and optimized, clinical benefits generally outweigh potential radiation-related risks. Nevertheless, misconceptions and risk overestimation may lead to refusal or delay of necessa

A mixed-method scoping review examining parental perspectives on heavy metal exposure in children.

BACKGROUND: Heavy metal exposure is a public health problem, especially in vulnerable populations such as children. A growing body of scholarly research sheds light on the issue of heavy metal exposure among children. However, there are still some gaps in the understanding of the full spectrum of factors that influence awareness and knowledge about the effects of heavy metals on children, especially in African countries. Children exposed to heavy metals primarily receive care from their parents. This scoping study aims to methodically map and synthesise the current literature on parental persp

Patient and caregiver knowledge of pediatric testicular torsion: A scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Pediatric testicular torsion (PedTT) is a surgical emergency that requires prompt presentation. Delay in intervention can lead to testicular loss. In the PedTT care pathway, the pre-hospital phase prior to presenting to the emergency department, is the strongest determining factor for testicular salvage. Although the severe nature of testicular pain is likely to prompt many families to seek emergent care, patients with milder symptoms may delay presentation if they and their caregivers are unaware of PedTT as a disease entity. Understanding caregiver and pediatric knowledge of Pe
