Sonic hedgehog (Shh) is a secreted morphogen necessary for the production of sidedness in the developing embryo. Holt-Oram syndrome (HOS) is characterised by mild to severe congenital cardiac defects and skeletal abnormalities of the upper limb. This syndrome is also referred to as Hand-Heart syndrome. The most common cardiac disorder is an ostium secundum detected an atrial septal defect (ASD), followed by ventricular septal defect (VSD) and ostium primum ASD. We report a case of HOS with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). This association is very rare and is hardly reported in the literature.

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection (PAPVC) is often associated with other congenital heart diseases. OBJECTIVE: To clarify the morphological features relating to an intermediate axis or a right axis deviation in atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD).

We report the case of a 8-month-old boy with atrial septal defect associated with congenital atrial flutter. He was operated on for ASD successfully. Atrial flutter in infants has been reported to be uncommon and to have a poor prognosis when associated with underlying cardiac disease. Therefore, early surgical intervention may improve the prognosis.

OBJECTIVE: To design a device for direct vision intracardiac operation without cardiopulmonary bypass, and assess its applicability preliminarily.

A 63-year-old woman with atrial septal defect, mitral regurgitation, and tricuspid regurgitation underwent mitral valvuloplasty with 30 mm Carpentier ring, patch closure of atrial septal defect and tricuspid annuloplasty with 36 mm Carpentier ring. This prospective observational study was done to find out the frequency of various forms of congenital heart disease (CHD) diagnosed by echocardiography. During the study period (January 2002 to December 2005) 2050 patients were screened by echocardiography.
