OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness and safety of laser-lancing devices (LLDs) compared with an automatic incision device (AID) for heel puncture in preterm infants.

Foreign bodies can be difficult to diagnose and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of unexplained pain, even in the absence of recalled trauma.
