Experimental allergic orchitis induced by unilateral intratesticular bacterial infection in guinea-pigs.

Inoculation of 1 X 10(3) viable Listeria monocytogenes into unilateral testis induced pathological changes in the contralateral testis and epididymis in guinea-pigs. Because L. Monocytogenes was not detected in the contralateral testis, liver or spleen during the period of the experiment, that is, bacterial growth was limited to the inoculated site, the pathological changes in the contralateral testis may be due to autoimmune mechanisms, but not due to bacterial inflammation. The pathological changes in our system were similar to those observed after the injection of testicular antigen in Freu

Comparison between parenterally administered copper complexes of their ability to alleviate hypocupraemia in sheep and cattle.

In a comparison of four parenteral copper preparations for sheep administered at similar dose rates, copper as diethylamine oxyquinoline sulphonate (copper DOS) was found to alleviate hypocupraemia in ewes more consistently than copper calcium EDTA and copper-methionate, given in a cream (C) or aqueous base (A). In similar comparisons of preparations for cattle, copper calcium EDTA was 19 per cent more effective than copper DOS and 36 to 48 per cent more effective than copper methionate (A). Methionate preparations were characterised by marked reactions at and slow translocation from the site

Pattern of inflammatory response to Loxosceles intermedia venom in distinct mouse strains: a key element to understand skin lesions and dermonecrosis by poisoning.

Envenomation caused by spiders Loxosceles induce intense dermonecrosis at the bite site and systemic disease. In this work we described the hyaluronidase and collagenase activities in vitro of the Loxosceles intermedia venom, but no phospholipase A2 activity. In vivo, we evaluated the effect of L. intermedia venom used different strain of mice, C57BL/6, BALB/c and Swiss. All mice developed paw edema after venom injection, persistent for 24 h in BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice. Histopathological analysis of the skin after venom injection revealed vascular congestion in Swiss mice and an inflammatory re

Oral glucocorticoid premedication for preventing infusion-related reactions to rituximab in rheumatoid arthritis.

OBJECTIVE: In current practice, intravenous prednisolone is administered as pretreatment to rituximab (RTX) to prevent infusion-related reactions (IRRs). This retrospective observational cohort study investigated whether 50 mg oral prednisolone is as effective as 50 mg intravenous methylprednisolone in preventing IRRs in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, as this could potentially be a more practical, patient-friendly, and cost-effective alternative. METHOD: Since January 2022, the local RTX pretreatment protocol changed from 50 mg methylprednisolone intravenously to 50 mg prednisolone orall

Immediate-type hypersensitivity and other clinical reactions in volunteers immunized with a synthetic multi-antigen peptide vaccine (PfCS-MAP1NYU) against Plasmodium falciparum sporozoites.

We tested the clinical reactions to a synthetic, Plasmodium falciparum, circumsporozoite multiple antigen peptide (MAP) vaccine in 39 volunteers immunized two to three times over 2-8 months using a dose escalation design. Immediate pain at the injection site was associated with the adjuvant QS-21 (P<0.001), and delayed local inflammatory reactions were associated with high-titered circulating IgG anti-MAP antibody (P=0.03). Because two volunteers developed acute, systemic urticaria after the third immunization associated with development of serum IgE MAP antibody, we employed immediate-type hy

[ALLERGIC REACTIONS TO CHILDHOOD VACCINATIONS].

Childhood vaccinations are one of the greatest achievements of modern medicine, having significantly reduced the morbidity and mortality of many infectious diseases all over the world. Anaphylactic reaction to vaccinations is rare and is estimated to occur at a rate of 1 per million doses. Allergic reaction to vaccinations can be induced by the microbial antigens, toxoids, and also by residual proteins which are derived from cultures media and stabilizers, such as ovalbumine, gelatin and yeasts. Other adverse events include large local reactions at the injection site, delayed rashes or hypoton

Relugolix for Metastatic Hormone-sensitive Prostate Cancer with Impending Paraplegia.

Luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonists, used in advanced prostate cancer, can cause an initial testosterone surge and may inadequately suppress follicle-stimulating hormone, potentially promoting tumor growth. Injectable gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists avoid this surge but have drawbacks like injection-site reactions and monthly dosing. Relugolix, an oral GnRH antagonist, offers rapid testosterone suppression without flare and reduced cardiovascular risks. We report a 72-year-old man with suspected metastatic prostate cancer, presenting with severe neuritic pain and l
