Mucinous neoplasms are commonly seen in the ovaries and pancreas. Their occurrence in the retroperitoneum is uncommon. We present a case of a retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in a 54-year-old female who presented with right flank pain. Imaging demonstrated an 8.6 × 7.9 cm mass at the anterior surface of the lower pole of the right kidney, suspicious for renal cell carcinoma. Serum tumor markers carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) and cancer embryonic antigen (CEA) were within normal limits, and cancer antigen 125 (CA 125) was elevated. Surgical resection of the mass was performed. I

A man in his 60s on methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis developed a fever and lymph node swelling, suggesting a lymphoproliferative disorder. Methotrexate was discontinued; however, the patient was admitted for acute kidney injury (AKI) and thrombocytopenia. Blood tests showed high levels of inflammatory markers, positive plasma Epstein-Barr virus DNA, and CD10-positive abnormal T cells, indicating T-cell neoplasm. CHOP chemotherapy with continuous hemodiafiltration improved the patient's condition. A lymph node biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL). To

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm driven by the BCR::ABL1 tyrosine kinase. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have been established as standard therapies for CML. However, some CML patients experience TKI intolerance. Asciminib was approved for CML patients either intolerant or refractory to TKI therapy. We herein report a 63-year-old CML patient who underwent renal transplantation and exhibited TKI intolerance. He was switched to asciminib, which achieved a deep molecular response without exacerbation of the renal function. Our experience revealed that asciminib i

A 74-year-old man presented with right flank pain and a palpable mass in the left flank. Blood pressure was normal. Contrastenhanced computed tomography (CT) showed a 17 × 16 × 12 cm retroperitoneal mass over the left kidney, solid and heterogeneous. There were also 3 retro aortic lymph nodes and bilateral renal lithiasis. Twenty four-hour urinary metanephrines and normetanephrines were normal. The patient underwent a resection of the mass with left adrenalectomy by a lumbar incision. Histological findings revealed an adrenal oncocytic neoplasm (AON) with uncertain malignant potential. Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare neoplasm of mesenchymal origin. The most commonly reported locations are the pleura and meninges. Less frequently, SFT manifests as an asymptomatic mass in the pancreas, liver, peritoneum or kidney. Clinical and radiological findings have failed to provide any specific diagnostic pattern but allow malignant development to be suspected due to infiltration or metastasis. In addition, preoperative cytology often yields inconclusive or misleading results. Therefore the definitive diagnosis is achieved after both surgical resection and immunohistochemical anal

Angiomyolipoma is a benign mesenchymal neoplasm that typically occurs in the kidney sporadically or in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex. Extrarenal angiomyolipomas are uncommon, and the liver is the most common extrarenal site. Other sites reported include the bone, colon, heart, lung, parotid gland, skin, spermatic cord, gynecologic regions, and retroperitoneum. A case of an angiomyolipoma involving the right adrenal gland in a 49-year-old female patient with tuberous sclerosis is reported. The magnetic resonance (MR) imaging features are also discussed. A malignant pheochromocytoma with multiple metastases was diagnosed in a 7-year-old male wolfdog that resulted from a cross between an eastern timber wolf (Canis lupus lycaon) and an Alaskan malamute. A yellowish white neoplastic mass approximately 10 cm diameter was found in the right adrenal gland. The neoplasm penetrated through the wall of the caudal vena cava. A diagnosis of pheochromocytoma was established by histopathologic and immunohistochemical procedures. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells expressed chromogranin A, substance P, synaptophysin, Leu-7, protein gene product 9.5

A case, is reported of a 40 year-old woman with a "form fruste" of tuberous sclerosis, multiple angiomyolipomas of the kidney, and an angiomyolipoma of the liver. On magnetic resonance imaging the hepatic mass was markedly hyperintense to liver on short TR/short TE spin-echo sequence. Spiral computed tomography during arterial portography showed hepatic mass in the right hemiliver with areas of negative attenuation values suggesting fat content. Pathologic examination of the resected specimen confirmed the diagnosis of an angiomyolipoma of the liver. Computed tomography during arterial portogr

Sweat gland carcinomas constitute less than 10% of all malignant tumors of the vulva, including those associated with extramammary Paget's disease (EPD). The histopathologic diagnosis of vulvar sweat gland carcinomas is difficult because of their rarity; their resemblance to metastatic carcinomas of the internal female genitalia, kidneys, and other sites; and their diversity of microscopic appearances. We report five examples of vulvar sweat gland carcinomas, two of which were associated with EPD. The other tumors included one example each of ductal eccrine adenocarcinoma, eccrine porocarcinom

Choriocarcinoma is a highly invasive and metastatic neoplasm which arises in women of reproductive age. It can be either gestational or nongestational in origin, but the latter form is very rare. Choriocarcinoma is characterized by the production of human chorionic gonadotropin. It can metastasize to distant organs such as lung, brain, liver, kidney, and vagina in the early stages of disease, but retroperitoneal metastasis is extremely rare. Treatment options include surgical intervention and chemotherapy. We present the case of a 25-year-old nulliparous woman who presented to our department w

A juvenile female loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) stranded in Gran Canaria was submitted for necropsy. The turtle had exhibited anorexia and lethargy for 2 weeks prior to its death. At necropsy, the thymus was enlarged by two white and firm nodules. White nodules similar to those in thymus were observed in the plastron, thyroid gland, heart, aorta, left lung, spleen, liver, kidneys, stomach, and small intestine. Histopathology revealed a neoplastic proliferation of round cells identified as lymphoid cells. Ultrastructurally, the neoplastic cells were consistent with lymphoblastic cells

Background/Objectives: Renal cell cancer is a rare occurrence in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC), with no clearly demonstrated association between UC and an increased risk of renal malignancies. In this article, a case report concerning this relationship is presented. Methods: Our research group presented a case of clear cell renal carcinoma in a 56-year-old male with UC who had previously undergone ileorectal anastomosis and subtotal colectomy. Results: The patient developed a complex renal cyst that progressed to malignancy within one year while on immunosuppressive therapy with inflix

A 5-y-old female Golden Retriever was presented with a 2-wk history of hyporexia, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, weight loss, polyuria, and polydipsia. Clinical examination and ultrasonography revealed multiple organ enlargement with gallbladder and kidney nodules suggestive of disseminated neoplasia. Hematologic and biochemical analyses revealed pancytopenia, hypercalcemia, and monoclonal IgA gammopathy suspicious for a plasma cell neoplasm. Bone marrow and blood smear examination revealed neoplastic atypical cells highly suggestive of lymphoid origin. Autopsy confirmed the presence of homogen

Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare 'L' (Langerhans) group histiocytic neoplasm that affects a multitude of organ systems, causing osteosclerotic bone lesions, periaortic encasement ('coated' aorta), retroperitoneal fibrosis involving kidneys and ureters ('hairy kidney'), and infiltration of the central nervous system. Cardiovascular involvement can occur in up to 70% of patients and is usually found during computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging evaluation. When present, cardiovascular symptoms can have wide variability in presentation from asymptomatic to pericarditis, fatal cardi

Paneth-like cells (PLCs) are different from Paneth cells (PCs) and contain Paneth-like granules, which have been reported in non-neoplastic conditions and in neoplasms of various organs. PLCs have been reported in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC), but not in non-CCRCC, including acquired cystic disease-associated renal cell carcinoma (ACD-RCC). We analyzed clinicopathological features of 24 acquired cystic disease-associated renal cell carcinoma (ACD-RCC) with PLCs (ACD-RCCP+) and compared with those of 23 ACD-RCCs without PLCs (ACD-RCCP-). Approximately half of ACD-RCCs had PLCs and th

Primary tumors of the renal pelvis and ureter account for about 8% of all urinary tract tumors. More than 90% of them are urothelial carcinomas. On the other hand, unilateral multicystic renal disease is an uncommon pathologic condition that may be mistaken for unilateral autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, multilocular cystic nephroma or cystic neoplasm. We present the case of a 54-year-old male known with arterial hypertension, admitted in the Second Surgery Department of Emergency County Hospital, Constanta, with intense right flank and right lumbar pain. This symptom started one

Carcinoid tumor of the renal pelvis is an extremely rare neoplasm and only two cases have been previously reported in the English-language literature. Reported herein is a third case of carcinoid tumor arising in the renal pelvis. The tumor extending from the left renal pelvis into the left kidney was incidentally found in a 55-year-old Japanese woman. Macroscopically, the tumor was predominantly located in the dilated renal pelvis and was grayish-white on cut surface. Microscopically, neoplastic cells proliferated with a ribbon-like, trabecular, tubular and solid pattern. Furthermore, the tum

UNLABELLED: Approximately 3% to 4% of all newly diagnosed cancers are kidney tumours, which can develop from either the renal parenchymal tissue or the renal pelvis. Kidney cancer is one of the 13 most prevalent kinds of malignancy worldwide. 85% of all malignant kidney neoplasms are renal cell carcinomas (RCC). We present a rare instance of an RCC that had a thrombus in the ureter and had directly extended into the renal pelvicalyceal system. A thorough diagnostic workup was required because the patient had a number of symptoms, including flank pain, hematuria, and weight loss. Imaging tests …
