One hundred seventy-six patients with breast prosthetic implants were evaluated. All women were symptomatic and were referred by either attorneys (152) or physicians (24) for rheumatic evaluation. One hundred and thirty-seven children with Campylobacter diarrhoea were reviewed. The predominant species was C. jejuni. Ninety-five percent of the children were below 5 years of age with 61% of these being 2-12 months old. A slight male preponderance was noted. The clinical and laboratory data for 15 patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVI) (5 females and 10 males aged 3 years and 6 months to 40 years at first examination) were evaluated. The age of onset of infectious signs and symptoms ranged from 6 months to 35 years. Recurrent pulmonary infections predominated (86.6%), followed by chronic diarrhea (46.6%). I describe a case of endometrial tuberculosis acquired by a microbiologist while she was working in a clinical laboratory. Granulomatous endometritis was found, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis was isolated. Respiratory tract exposure from a faulty exhaust hood is the likely source of infection. Endometrial tuberculosis and laboratory-acquired infections are briefly discussed.

We describe the clinical and laboratory findings of 78 adult patients with T-prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL) studied over the last 12 years. The study groups included 120 infertile females with hyperandrogenism: group I-47 patients with androgenic adrenal hyperfunction; group II-51 patients with androgenic adrenal and ovarian hyperfunction; group III-22 patients with androgenic ovarian hyperfunction. The patients with an adrenal pattern of hyperandrogenism demonstrated lower degrees of androgenization (lower hirsutism and clitorism) as well as a less pronounced impairment of the menstrual cycle versus the examinees from the other groups mentioned.

Fourteen patients with ataxia-telangiectasia and 10 relatives were studied. Besides neurological examination, laboratorial investigations as to their immunological condition were carried out. In this study, our attention was attracted to the most frequent and relevant laboratorial data being decreased serum and salivary levels of IgA, decreased rate of blastic transformation of lymphocytes and increased serum levels of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). On the other hand, no patient showed increased levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Our population reported a consanguinity rate of 28.5%.

Different combinations of tuberculostatic drugs containing pyrazinamide were prescribed to 144 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. In 3 months of treatment, bacterial excretion was observed in 89.7% of newly diagnosed patients and in 59% of cases with chronic forms of pulmonary tuberculosis. Side effects due to pyrazinamide were registered in 16.8% of the patients. In 2-3 months of therapy there were no differences traced in the condition of the liver, lipoid peroxidation or antioxidative activity as well as in a number of immunologic indices both in subjects receiving different combinations

Clinical and laboratory records of 100 biopsy-proved cases of generalized granuloma annulare seen at the Mayo Clinic between 1966 and 1986 were reviewed. The skin eruption involved predominantly annular lesions in 67 patients and predominantly nonannular papules in 33. We describe the spectrum of clinical and laboratory findings in 130 young nonvaccinated adults who had measles during an epidemic, and give special emphasis to liver involvement. The data from these cases are compared to those of other selected groups of hospitalized young adults. Since measles seems to cause severe morbidity in adults, active measures should be taken to identify and vaccinate vulnerable nonimmunized individuals.
