Striae distensae, better known as stretch marks, are a common disfiguring skin disorder of significant cosmetic concern. Many sources have reported the use of lasers to diminish the appearance of striae. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Two separate cases involving laser ablation of hair follicles in the neourethra are described.
STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: Urethral hair developed secondarily to free-flap urethroplasty for congenital urethral defects. In both cases, cystoscopic depilation with electrocautery fulguration was attempted on multiple occasions.
RESULTS: No improvement was seen; therefore, laser ablation was employed. Both patients remain free of regrowth at greater than one year of follow-up.

Endonasal laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy allows relief of epiphora caused by nasolacrimal duct obstruction. It can be performed as a day-case procedure and has many advantages over conventional approaches. Thirty-eight patients underwent a randomized double-blind trial using the KTP laser for tonsillectomy on one tonsil and standard dissection tonsillectomy on the other tonsil. Blood loss was less on the laser side. However, pain though initially slightly less on the laser side (days 1 and 2 post-operation) was worse on the laser side at 2 weeks due to delayed healing of the tonsillar bed. There were no primary or reactionary haemorrhages but a 15% incidence of secondary haemorrhage on the laser side.

PURPOSE: This study evaluates the efficacy of endoscopic laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy (LADCR) in the treatment of epiphora and chronic dacryocystitis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Treatment results were prospectively reviewed for 17 patients undergoing 19 LADCR procedures of which 12 were primary and 7 were revision cases. Silastic intubation tubing was removed after surgery at a mean of 76.5 days in the primary cases and 184 days in the revision cases. Patients were followed-up for a mean of 15.6 months (range, 5 to 25 months).
RESULTS: LADCR was successful in 100% of primary cases and 60%

For the efficacy and safety of partial stapedectomy, Co2 laser was used in 44 patients with otosclerosis. The laser-tissue interaction is a complex phenomenon which is usually classified into 4 distinct mechanisms: electro-mechanical action, photoablative action, thermal action and photochemical action. Fragmentation of calculi by means of a pulsed dye laser is a good example of the electro-mechanical action. The thermal action can induce coagulation and/or volatilisation of tissues. Treatments of bladder tumors, urethral strictures and more recently benign prostatic hypertrophy are based on the laser terminal action.
