BACKGROUND: We describe a case of a recurrent ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) in a 37-year-old male with a mass at the infero-temporal quadrant along with an isolated primary lesion at the upper nasal quadrant for the last five months with a past history of surgical excision 7 years ago for a nodular mass in the same eye. The mass showed delayed response to Mitomycin C (MMC) therapy and finally developed limbal stem cell deficiency.
CASE REPORT: A 37-year-old male presented with a five-month history of foreign body sensation and localized conjunctival hyperemia and two progressively

The authors report a case of acute development of an extensive retrobulbar abscess 3 weeks after an orbital floor fracture. Urgent drainage of the abscess was performed by an anterior transconjunctival approach. A dramatic recovery was observed a few days following the operation. The visual acuity increased from hand motions to 0.7 to 0.8 in the early postoperative period and to 1.0 shortly thereafter. The severity of infection, the importance of antibiotic prophylaxis for blowout fractures, and the efficacy of the transconjunctival approach on the final visual and functional outcome are descr

RATIONALE: Pigmented lesions of conjunctiva and cornea can be observed in various conditions, from the benign nevus to malignant melanoma. Pigmented acquired melanosis (PAM) is one of them, which is a neoplastic proliferation with malignant transformation potential of melanocytes. However, to our knowledge, there has been no report as to a disturbance of corneal barrier function caused by PAM. Here we report a case of corneal PAM which led to recurrent corneal erosions.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 60-year-old woman was referred with a 4-month history of intractable recurrent epithelial erosions in th

BACKGROUND: Pellucid marginal corneal degeneration is a non-inflammatory disorder complicated by severe inferior corneal thinning. The central portion of the cornea, consequently, appears to protrude outwards, decreasing vision by means of an irregular stigmatism. Additionally, acute hydrops can occur in case of Descemet's membrane rupture.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 41-year-old Japanese woman presenting with severe visual loss in the left eye was examined and observed to have had full thickness corneal perforation as well as a Descemet membrane rupture with massive edema in the corneal stroma. Ant

INTRODUCTION: Cornea is the outermost transparent coat of eye along with sclera, for which its avascularity is essential for maintaining its transparency to have normal visual acuity. Corneal neovascularization is characterized by the invasion of new blood vessels into the cornea from the limbus interfering with corneal transparency, resulting in reduction in visual acuity. It also increases the risk of graft rejection. So their being a dire need to treat corneal neovascularisation, with laser photocoagulation being an effective means of treating it.
AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety o

Corneal integrity, transparency, and visual acuity are maintained by corneal epithelial cells (CECs), which are continuously renewed by limbal epithelial stem cells (LESCs). The limbal stem cell deficiency is associated with ocular diseases. This study aimed to develop a novel method to differentiate bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) into LESC-like cells using a culture medium and paired box 6 (Pax6) transfection. The LESC-like cells were confirmed using the LESC markers CK14 and p63 and CEC marker CK12. Pax6 induces BM-MSCs to differentiate into LESC-like cells in vitro. Mouse mode
