OBJECTIVE: To compare the symmetry of the lip following Rotation-Advancement cleft lip repair by Millard and Pigott and to investigate the effect on the symmetry of cleft side and gender by using different surgical protocols. Symmetry following cleft surgery was compared to that of non-cleft children.

A gummy smile results from varied factors, including excessive muscle activity, maxillary bone variations, dental malformations, or smaller lip volume. Botulinum toxin is used to correct a gummy smile when there is excessive vertical upper lip mobility. Lip inversion can accompany a gummy smile. We report a case of lip inversion accompanying a gummy smile corrected with botulinum toxin. This simple procedure can be instituted at the stage of gummy smile correction or upon follow-up for its correction, and can obviate the need for overdosing and the use of lip fillers.

Congenital lip sinus is a rare entity with upper lip sinus being rarer than the lower lip sinus. It can be an isolated entity or associated with cleft lip, palate or Van der Woude syndrome. Syndromic association requires proper evaluation and aggressive surgical treatment. Preoperative delineation of the sinus tract with ultrasound sonography or MRI is mandatory. Simple excision is sufficient in cases of isolated sinuses. In this article, we report an infant with upper lip sinus managed successfully with simple excision and reviewed the literature.
