Long-pulsed NdYAG for early bruise resolution: a case series.

BACKGROUND: Ecchymoses occur due to various insults to the skin which generally heals spontaneously within 2-3 weeks, with restoration of normal skin color. However, the prominent skin discolouration is troublesome for patients, prompting them to seek remedies for quick resolution. We highlight the importance of using long pulsed NdYAG laser as a treatment modality to speed the resolution of ecchymoses from 14 days to 24-48 hr in skin-type V-VI with negligible side effects, as its potential use is not widely known. We report on the first successful case series using this laser in skin-type V-V

The Therapeutic and Preventive Effects of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) for Post-Inflammatory Erythema and Hyperpigmentation: A Pilot Study.

Background/Purpose Photobiomodulation (PBM) using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) benefits tissue regeneration and wound healing. However, evidence regarding the efficacy of LED for post-inflammatory erythema (PIE) and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is limited. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of medical LED (830 nm and 590 nm) in the prevention and treatment of PIE and PIH. Methods The in vivo PIE/PIH model was simplified to erythema and pigmentation reaction after acute UVB exposure. 308 nm LED light (225 or 270 mJ/cm2) was induced in vivo in the PIE/PIH model on the t

Penile vascular macules: an under-recognised condition responding to pulsed dye laser.

Penile vascular macules represent an under-recognised clinical entity that can present both idiopathically and secondary to trauma. These lesions, while benign, often cause significant psychological distress to patients. Three cases of Penile vascular macules with distinct aetiologies are presented. Two cases demonstrated idiopathic onset during adolescence, presenting as solitary, asymptomatic red macules on the glans penis. The third case was acquired, developing secondary to prolonged penis ring use. The idiopathic cases showed complete resolution with pulsed dye laser treatment with sustai

Neutrophil response to Porphyromonas gingivalis is modulated by low-level laser application.

OBJECTIVES: Neutrophil response is critical in inflammatory regulation and immune response to bacterial infections. During periodontal disease, pathogenic bacteria lead to exaggerated neutrophil responses. We hypothesized that low-level laser application (LLLT), therapeutic strategy for dampening inflammatory processes, will regulate neutrophil activity in response to periodontopathogens. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The impact of LLLT on neutrophil responses was measured by light delivered at wavelength of 850 nm. The direct effect of LLLT on P. gingivalis A7436 was determined by flow cytometry us

Photobiomodulation versus corticosteroid in the management of erosive oral lichen planus: a randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic illness of immune origin that is typically treated with corticosteroids as a gold standard therapy. Photobiomodulation (PBM) may represent an alternative remedy that has the potential to treat a variety of pathological conditions by alleviating pain, reducing inflammation, and promoting tissue healing without the drawbacks of steroid therapies. Thus, the aim of the current study was to compare the effect of photobiomodulation to topical 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide on erosive oral lichen planus. METHODS: This randomized controlled clinical tri

Photobiomodulation therapy on local effects induced by juvenile and adult venoms of Bothrops alternatus.

Bothrops snake envenomation is characterized by severe local manifestations such as pain, edema, inflammation, hemorrhage, and myonecrosis. Furthermore, it is described that venom from juvenile and adult snakes may have differences in their composition that can lead to differences in the evolution of the clinical manifestation of the victim. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been shown to be an effective adjuvant therapy to serum therapy to reduce the local effects induced by bothropic snake venom. This study evaluated the effect of PBM on the local reaction, after Bothrops alternatus snake venom (

LED photobiomodulation therapy combined with biomaterial as a scaffold promotes better bone quality in the dental alveolus in an experimental extraction model.

A bone scaffold added to the dental alveolus immediately after an extraction avoids bone atrophy and deformity at the tooth loss site, enabling rehabilitation with implants. Photobiomodulation accelerates bone healing by stimulating blood flow, activating osteoblasts, diminishing osteoclastic activity, and improving the integration of the biomaterial with the bone tissue. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of photobiomodulation with LED at a wavelength of 850 nm on bone quality in Wistar rats submitted to molar extraction with and without a bone graft using hydroxyapatite

Synchrotron radiation soft X-ray microscopy and low energy X-ray fluorescence to reveal elemental changes in spermatozoa treated with photobiomodulation therapy.

Male infertility is a worldwide clinical issue that increases the number of couples resorting to assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) to achieve pregnancy. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is a promising technique that can biostimulate cells and tissues and it is currently successfully employed to enhance the sperm motility in vitro. Nevertheless, its use has been so far restricted to the research field. In the present work, we exploited two PBMT protocols at an 800 nm wavelength on sperm derived from infertile individuals, detecting an increase in sperm motility 1 hour after irradiation

Propionibacterium acnes susceptibility to low-level 449 nm blue light photobiomodulation.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Recent advances in low-level light devices have opened new treatment options for mild to moderate acne patients. Light therapies have been used to treat a variety of skin conditions over the years but were typically only available as treatments provided by professional clinicians. Clinical application of blue light has proven to be effective for a broader spectral range and at lower fluences than previously utilized. Herein, we tested the hypothesis that sub-milliwatt/cm2 levels of long-wave blue light (449 nm) effectively kills Propionibacterium acnes, a causative ag
