(1) Background: The nature of the changes that contribute to Class II correction with functional appliances is still controversial. A broad variation in treatment responses has been reported. The purpose of this study was to find cephalometric predictors for individual patient responsiveness to twin-block treatment in patients with Class II Division 1 malocclusion; (2) Methods: The study was performed on a sample of 39 pubertal patients (21 females, 18 males) treated with the twin block appliance. Lateral cephalograms were available at the start of the treatment (T1) and at the end of function

Treatment for a patient with a dental anomaly pattern is challenging and complex. This article presents a rare case with an association of multiple ectopic eruptions treated in 2 phases. An 8-year-old boy in the early mixed dentition showed a Class II, Division 2 malocclusion, and an ectopic eruption of the mandibular right lateral incisor. The treatment plan included extractions of the deciduous mandibular right lateral incisor and canine, followed by partial mandibular fixed appliances and a lingual arch. In the late mixed dentition, the panoramic radiograph showed bilateral ectopic eruption

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the esthetic perceptions of orthodontists and laypersons for facial profile changes after orthodontic treatment using Herbst or Forsus appliances.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pre- and posttreatment facial profile contour images of 20 Class II patients treated with Herbst (group H; n = 10) and Forsus (group F; n = 10) appliances were analyzed by 30 orthodontists and 30 laypersons, who graded them from 1 (unattractive) to 10 (very attractive) using a visual analog scale. Two assessments were carried out with a 15 day-interval. In the first evaluation, 40 images were presented

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of functional appliance treatment on mandibular trabecular structure using fractal dimension (FD) analysis of dental panoramic radiographs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted using digital panoramic radiographs of 45 patients with Class II malocclusion treated with functional appliances (treatment group, mean age: 11.39 ± 0.97 years; 23 girls, 22 boys) acquired before (T0) and after (T1) treatment and the panoramic radiographs of 45 control subjects who had undergone no orthodontic treatment (control group, mean age: 11.31 ± 0.87 years; 23 girls

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the Forsus fatigue-resistant device (FRD) EZ2 appliance (3M Unitek, Monrovia, Calif) on facial soft tissues by using images obtained from cephalometric radiographs and 3-dimensional (3D) facial scanning system.
METHODS: A total of 20 patients treated with the Forsus FRD EZ2 appliance were included in this study. The cervical vertebral maturation index was used to determine growth and development stages, and the subjects were investigated at cervical vertebral maturation stages 5 and 6 (ie, postpeak period). Three-dimensional facial sca

Mandibular hypoplasia is very common clinically. Studies have reported that temporomandibular joint internal derangement (TMJID) might manifest as mandibular retrusion, and whether there is a direct correlation between them remains controversial in academia. On the other hand, for adolescent patients with skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion, the growth of mandible could be motivated by orthopedic force, and then the mandibular retrusion corrected. However, if TMJID is the direct cause of mandibular retrusion, orthopedic treatment will not have a significant effect on it. Base on literature review an

INTRODUCTION: The goals of this study were to compare the effects that cervical and high-pull headgear have on the vertical dimensions in Class II Division 1 patients during phase 1 treatment and to compare these effects with untreated predicted growth for the sample population.
METHODS: Pretreatment and posttreatment cephalometric radiographs of children who had undergone Class II Division 1 correction with cervical (n = 22) or high-pull headgear (n = 19) were analyzed for the measurements that describe the changes in the vertical component of growth and mandibular position. The groups were

BACKGROUND: Functional appliances have been used since many decades for the correction of mandibular retrognathism. Similar oral appliances are a treatment modality for patients with Obstructive sleep apnoea. Hence, interception at the right age with these growth modification appliances might benefit a child from developing long-term respiratory insufficiency. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to assess the short-term effects of Twin block appliance (CTB) on pharyngeal airway size in subjects with skeletal Class-II pattern in a sample of Pakistani population.
METHODS: A retrospective st

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the long-term effects of asymmetrical maxillary first molar (M1) extraction in Class II subdivision treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Records of 20 Class II subdivision whites (7 boys, 13 girls; mean age, 13.0 years; SD, 1.7 years) consecutively treated with the Begg technique and M1 extraction, and 15 untreated asymmetrical Class II adolescents (4 boys, 11 girls; mean age, 12.2 years; SD, 1.3 years) were examined in this study. Cephalometric analysis and PAR assessment were carried out before treatment (T1), after treatment (T2), and on average 2.5 years posttreatment

This study aims to critically evaluate orthodontically induced external apical root resorption (OIEARR) in incisors of patients undergoing non-surgical orthodontic treatment of class II division 1 malocclusion by a systematic review of the published data. An electronic search of two databases was performed; the bibliographies of relevant articles were also reviewed. Studies were included if they examined the amount of OIEARR in incisors produced during non-surgical orthodontic treatment of individuals with class II division I malocclusion in the permanent dentition. Individuals had no previous

RATIONALE: The etiology of class II division 1 Angle anomaly comprises many entities, including heredity and the vicious habit of sucking the finger. A close connection between the etiology and the clinical features needs to be outlined, in order to have a more appropriate treatment approach.
AIM: This study aims to find common clinical features for two groups of Class II division 1 etiological factors (heredity and the vicious habit of sucking the finger), outlining a characteristic dento-facial pattern for each etiological factor.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 160 orthodontic cases were studied,

Autotransplantation is an alternative method to replace a missing tooth. This study reports a 17-year-old man who had autotransplantation of the left upper third molar with the congenitally missing left lower second premolar. No signs of inflammation, root resorption, ankylosis, mobility, sensitivity, pocket problems, or pulp destructions were found after 2-year follow up. Autotransplantation can lead to shorter treatment time and an improved treatment result in certain cases. It also eliminates the need for implants or prosthetic therapy.

A case report is presented of an adult with a crowded Class II, Division I subdivision left malocclusion. There was a moderate arch length deficiency in both arches. All four canines were prominent and had gingival recession. The patient's profile necessitated nonextraction treatment. Free gingival grafts were placed to prevent further recession and the Class II relationship and crowding were resolved with a positive profile change. [This case was presented to the American Board of Orthodontics in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the certification process conducted by the board.]

The patient was a 12-year-old female with Angle's Class II malocclusion accompanying congenital missing of upper premolar. The results were as follows: 1. After autotransplantation, orthodontic treatment time was 26 months. 2. In panoramic and periapical radiographs demonstrated closed root apex of transplanted tooth. 3. Autotransplanted tooth responses about vitality test. 4. Periodontal probing was within normal limits in the transplanted area.
