A paranoid schizophrenic patient developed the neuroleptic malignant syndrome after receiving three doses of fluphenazine HCl and two doses of thioridazine while he was recovering from major trauma. Treatment with diphenhydramine and benztropine mesylate was ineffective. Administration of amantadine HCl resulted in resolution of all symptoms within 24 hours. After 2 days, the amantadine was discontinued. The following day, the neuroleptic malignant syndrome appeared. Readministration of amantadine again resulted in prompt remission of symptoms.

We report the case of a heavily pretreated male subject affected by left funiculus liposarcoma and successfully treated with eribulin mesylate. After three surgical interventions, radiotherapy on the lesion of the penile bulb for satellite nodules and an epirubicin + ifosfamide chemotherapy treatment for six cycles, eribulin was administered at the dose of 1.1 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8, every 3 weeks for a total of nine cycles. A significant reduction of the lesions was achieved after four cycles of therapy, with a good profile of tolerability.

Imatinib mesylate was the first BCR-ABL-target agent approved for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia. Although most patients respond well to imatinib therapy, the literature shows that one third develops resistance or intolerance. The timing of second-line treatment after failure of initial treatment may have a significant impact on long-term outcome. Thus, appropriate monitoring to identify resistance and/or intolerance is crucial to early intervention with second generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors and attainment of better results.

The authors report a case of a male patient in his forties with progressive abdominal pain associated with weight loss, dyspnea, and edema of the inferior limbs, culminating in a surgical acute abdomen. A segmental enterectomy containing a lesion of about 10 cm in diameter was performed. It was later confirmed, by means of immuno-histochemistry, as being a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor of high biological aggressiveness. Etiology, diagnosis, classification, prognosis and therapeutic with Imatinib Mesylate-STI-571 (Glivec®-Novartis) are hence discussed.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) are the most common leukemias of the elderly. However, the sequential occurrence of CML followed by CLL in the same patient is extremely rare. In the present report, a 71-yr-old man was diagnosed with Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome positive CML and treated with imatinib mesylate. He went into morphologic, cytogenetic, and molecular remission. Seven years after the diagnosis of CML, he developed CLL. We describe the morphologic, immunophenotypic, cytogenetic, and molecular findings in this patient.

Three cases of oro-ocular clefts from different families are presented. Two of the cases had a normal chromosomal constitution. The defects in each case were evaluated by computerized tomography computerized tomography prior to surgery. The theories concerning etiology and classification of oblique facial clefts are discussed in the light of computerized tomography scan findings. One of the cases had a history of maternal bromocriptine mesylate usage for prolactinoma, suggesting a teratogenic effect, but no similar cases have been reported in the medial literature.

Imatinib mesylate radically changed the natural history of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Haematological problems are commonly associated with use of beta-interferon in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. However these problems are usually benign and are reversible when the drug is stopped.
