M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (M-PLA2R) is a member of the mannose receptor family and known as the receptor of secretory phospholipase A2s. Self-healing collodion baby is a well-established subtype of this condition. We examined a male newborn, who was covered by a collodion membrane. The shed membrane was examined with scanning electron microscopy. The outer surface showed a very compact keratin without the normal elimination of corneocytes. The lateral view of the specimen revealed a very thick, horny layer. The inner surface showed the structure of lower corneocytes with polygonal contour. With higher magnifications villous projections were seen in the cell membrane.

In this study, we have done an immunohistochemical and an electron microscopy examination of normal and inflamed human dental pulp specimens in order to evaluate the morphological aspects of the nerve structures from the dental pulp. The blowfly Lucilia cuprina is distributed worldwide and is a mechanical vector of pathogens. It can cause myiasis in humans and is strongly related to forensic entomology, as it is frequently found on human and animal corpses. This report describes an episode of malignant hyperthermia (MH) in a 53-year-old Japanese man during general anesthesia that was triggered by isoflurane and succinylcholine. His past history and family history were unremarkable. From our analysis of ten exons, he had no recognizable mutation in the ryanodine receptor gene, but compatible with his MH reaction, he showed positive sensitivity to the Ca-induced Ca-release test. PURPOSE: To investigate the harmful effects of a single episode of intra-articular bleeding on articular cartilage of rabbit knees using scanning electron microscopy.
METHODS: Autologous blood was injected into the right knee joints of 18 New Zealand white rabbits. Frasier syndrome (FS) is a rare disease characterized by male pseudohermaphroditism and slowly progressing nephropathy. FS originates from heterozygous mutation in the intron 9 splicing donor site of Wilms' tumor suppressor gene (WT1). We investigated the effects of percutaneous gasserian glycerol injection in dogs and reviewed the histopathological changes. Experiments were performed in 16 adult healthy mongrel dogs. Chromium picolinate (CrPic) is a human dietary supplement that provides a bioavailable form of chromium(III). Structural changes in the liver and spleen of albino mice with Astrakhan scrub typhus were studied by electron microscopy. Rickettsia invasion and formation of granulomas induced structural (destructive) and metabolic changes in hepatocytes. Rickettsia were degraded in cytophagosomes and cytolysophagosomes of hepatic macrophages (Kupffer cells) and blood capillary endotheliocytes. In the spleen rickettsia were seen in the extracellular spaces and in various cell populations.

PURPOSE: To report the electron microscopic findings on an explanted intraocular lens in a patient with the uveitis, glaucoma, hyphaema syndrome.
METHODS: Scanning and transmission electron microscopy were undertaken on a coccoon of cellular material from the tip of the intraocular lens haptic.
RESULTS: Scanning electron micrographs showed densely packed coccoid-like structures on the haptic surface. By transmission electron microscopy these structures proved to be melanosomes.
