Dietary exposure to 11 elements was assessed by the Total Diet Study (TDS) method. Sixty-four pooled samples representing 96.5% of the diet in Yaoundé, Cameroon, were prepared as consumed before analysis. Consumption data were sourced from a household budget survey. In the present work, soil profiles were sampled 40 days and three years after an accidental pyrite tailing spill from the Aznalcóllar mine (S Spain) in order to figure out the effects of the acidic solution draining from the tailing. Many studies have examined the redox behavior of ferrous ions (Fe(II)) sorbed to mineral surfaces. However, the associated hydroxyl radical (•OH) formation during Fe(II) oxidation by O2 was rarely investigated at circumneutral pH.
