Contribution of the radiological assessment in the compensation of occupational shoulder tendinopathy.

INTRODUCTION: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) currently represent the first occupational health problem. Tendinopathy of the shoulder is the most common occupational diseas. It is responsible for variable aftereffects arriving until the articular steepness. AIM: To determine the influence of clinical and radiological investigations in setting the rate of permanent partial disability related to occupational shoulder tendinopathies. METHODS: This is a retrospective study of 63 patients followed for tendinopathy of the shoulder. The files were collected from the regional commission of attribut

Accelerometer-determined physical activity, mobility disability, and health.

BACKGROUND: We have a limited understanding of the objectively-determined physical activity levels among those with mobility limitations. Further, the association between objectively-measured physical activity and biomarkers among those with mobility limitations is relatively unknown. OBJECTIVE: Therefore, the primary objectives of this study were to compare accelerometer-determined physical activity levels among those with and without mobility limitations and determine if greater participation in physical activity was associated with more favorable health outcomes among those with mobility d…

Clinical and physiological risk factors contributing to the restricted mobility in older adults: a longitudinal analysis.

BACKGROUND: Mobility limitations (e.g., using wheelchair) have been closely linked to diminished functional independence and quality of life in older adults. The regulation of mobility is pertaining to multiple neurophysiologic and sociodemographic factors. We here aimed to characterize the relationships of these factors to the risk of restricted mobility in older adults. METHODS: In this longitudinal study, 668 older adults with intact mobility at baseline completed the baseline assessments of clinical characteristics, cognitive function, sleep quality, activities of daily living (ADL), walk…

Stretch for the treatment and prevention of contractures.

BACKGROUND: Contractures are a common complication of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, and are characterised by a reduction in joint mobility. Stretch is widely used for the treatment and prevention of contractures. However, it is not clear whether stretch is effective. OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of stretch on contractures in people with, or at risk of, contractures. SEARCH STRATEGY: Electronic searches were conducted on CENTRAL, DARE, HTA (The Cochrane Library); MEDLINE; CINAHL; EMBASE; SCI-EXPANDED; and PEDro (April 2009). SELECTION CRITERIA: Randomised controlled tr

Assessment of Functional Limitation and Associated Factors in Adults with Following Lower Limb Fractures, Gondar, Ethiopia in 2020: Prospective Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Lower limb fractures account for approximately one-third of all fractures. Lower limb fracture complications are one of the major reasons for hospital stays and have high impact on rehabilitation services. Functional limitations with lower extremities fractures are related to decreased functional mobility, the need for long term use of assistive devices, lack of independence, and the long term need for assistive care. This study aimed to assess the functional limitation and identify the possible predictors among lower limb fracture patients by using the Lower Extremity Functional S

Functional activity limitation of leprosy cases in an endemic area in Indonesia and recommendations for integrated participation program in society.

BACKGROUND: Leprosy continues to be a health problem in Indonesia, with incidence reaching over 10,000 new cases by 2021. Leprosy-related disabilities cause limitation of patients' activity and participation in social activities. To date, no studies have been conducted in Indonesia which investigates disability in terms of bodily function, structure impairment, limitations in performing daily activities, and restrictions in participation in social activities in leprosy patients. This study is aimed to determine the demographic and clinical characteristics that might affect functional activity

Use of the Vestibular Disorders Activities of Daily Living Scale to describe functional limitations in patients with vestibular disorders.

The Vestibular Disorders Activities of Daily Living Scale (VADL) is one of several self-rated scales in the literature that may be useful for determining level of functional limitation or disability in people with vestibular disorders. The VADL was designed by an occupational therapist for use in treatment planning during vestibular rehabilitation. Unlike many other scales the VADL is specifically focused on essential functional skills and important mobility and instrumental skills. This paper reviews the findings about the VADL, including the original research about its development and more r

[Difficult Airway Management of a Patient with the Ossification of Anterior Longitudinal Ligament].

We report a case of difficult airway management (DAM) with the ossification of anterior longitudinal ligament (OALL). A 66-year-old man complained of pharyngeal discomfort. He was diagnosed with OALL, and planned to have a surgery under general anesthesia. We expected DAM due to the limitation of cervical mobility and airway obstruction caused by OALL. We succeeded in awake intubation with video laryngoscope and tracheal tube introducer.

Endoscopic Resection of Lateral Synovial Cyst of the Knee.

Synovial cysts on the lateral side of the knee can cause pain, limitation of joint mobility, compression of the neighboring neurovascular structures, rupture leading to compartment syndrome, infection, erosion of adjacent bone, and iliotibial band friction syndrome. Open resection is commonly performed for symptomatic cysts. We describe an alternative, endoscopic approach to cyst resection. This has the advantages of minimally invasive surgery of smaller wounds, better cosmesis, and less surgical trauma.

[Computed tomography in the evaluation of orbital fractures].

Orbital fractures should be evaluated by CT in frontal and transverse planes. The significance of blow-out floor and medial wall fractures is discussed. Limitation of inferior rectus muscle mobility is thought to be a result of edema, enophthalmos, fat prolapse or scar tissue formation, rather than muscle incarceration. The consequent therapeutic attitude implies a rigorous preoperative exploration by CT or for some orbital floor fractures by MR.

The tirsomy 8 syndrome: two additional mosaic cases.

Two patients with trisomy 8 mosaicism, confirmed by trypsin-Giemsa banding are described. While the majority of patients with this aneuploidy have been mosaics, the phenotypes of the complete and mosaic trisomies closely resemble each other. Mosaic trisomy 8 results in specific clinical findings which include skeletal dysplasia, particularly absent patellae, deep furrowing of the soles of the feet, and periarticular changes resulting in camptodactyly and progressive limitation of joint mobility.

What is known about pressure injury prevention and management approaches among individuals with mobility impairments participating in disability sport? A scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Pressure injuries are a significant health concern for individuals with mobility impairments, impacting participation and quality of life. Sport is a meaningful leisure occupation for many but poses unique occupational, physical, and environmental challenges which increase the risk of pressure injuries. Occupational therapists can support those with mobility impairments in balancing pressure injury risk and participation in sport; however, little is known about effective management in sport. This scoping review aimed to map existing evidence on pressure injury prevention and mana

Brief daily functional strength training to improve functional performance in older adults with mobility disability: A randomized trial.

OBJECTIVES: Mobility disability is associated with functional decline in older adults. Resistance training (RT) improves mobility disability, but adherence to national RT guidelines is poor. We evaluated the effects of a 12-week brief, home-based functional RT program, FAST (Functional Activity Strength Training)-2, on adherence and functional impairment in older, inactive adults ≥ 65 years of age, with pre-existing walking difficulty. METHODS: Eligible older adults were randomized using stratified assignment based on biological sex and age (65-72 and 73+) to either the FAST-2 intervention in

An AI-Based Telerehabilitation Solution to Improve Mobility in People With Multiple Sclerosis (the PLATINUMS Project): Protocol for an Implementation and Evaluation Study.

BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, progressive, and neurodegenerative disease affecting more than 2.8 million people globally. Mobility impairments are among the most significant challenges faced by people with MS, leading to physical inactivity, deconditioning, and disability progression (for some, even irreversible disability). This negatively impacts mental health, social participation, and quality of life while placing a considerable economic burden on society. Exercise can improve mobility and mitigate disability progression, but facility-based options are often inaccessibl
