Molecular prevalence of equine herpesvirus type 1 and equine herpesvirus type 4 in thoroughbred and Arabian horse facilities in Türkiye.

Equine herpesvirus-1 and -4 are contagious viruses causing respiratory disease and reproductive losses in horses. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of EHV-1 and EHV-4 in eight Turkish stud farms using RT-PCR analysis of nasal secretions, uterine fluids and aborted foal tissues. Deep nasal swabs were collected from 443 horses showing acute-onset fever and/or clinical signs of respiratory disease. Additionally, uterine swabs and tissue samples (lung, liver, spleen, thymus, kidney, heart) were obtained from 152 abortion cases. Among symptomatic horses, EHV-1 DNA was found in 2 cases (0

n-Type Conjugated Polymers: Molecular Design, Material Properties, and Device Applications.

Both n-type and p-type conjugated polymers play vital roles in the advancement and commercialization of polymer electronics. Through the tremendous efforts of scientists and engineers in this field over the past decade, n-type polymer semiconductors have experienced remarkable progress in nearly every aspect. However, most of the reported high-performance polymer semiconductors still exhibit p-type characteristics. The performance gap between p-type and n-type polymer semiconductors has become the Achilles' heel of polymer electronics, hindering the development of emerging applications such as

Hierarchically Molecular Programming of Antiparallel H‑Aggregates for NIR Type I Photochemistry.

Developing near-infrared (NIR) photosensitizers with effective type I reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation remains challenging. H‑aggregates promote triplet formation and charge transfer, but often suffer from substantial absorption blueshifts and excessive thermal deactivation that compromise photosensitization efficacy. Herein, a hierarchically molecular programming strategy is proposed to construct minimal-blueshift H-aggregates as robust NIR type I photosensitizers. Primary engineering via π-bridge extension and acceptor strengthening within a twisted-planar donor-π-acceptor scaffold e

Neuronatin in Metabolic Regulation: Molecular Interplay in Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes Pathogenesis.

Growing evidence has established the imprinted gene neuronatin (NNAT) as a key regulator in human metabolic disorders, particularly obesity and type 2 diabetes. Its expression is prominently detected in major neuroendocrine and metabolic tissues, including the hypothalamus, pancreas, adipose tissue, and skeletal muscle. NNAT orchestrates diverse cellular processes through its regulation of intracellular calcium dynamics and pathological insulin secretion. Notably, NNAT exhibits nutrient-responsive regulation and is a crucial modulator of glucose homeostasis, adaptive thermogenesis, and overall

Molecular Mechanisms of Type 2 Diabetes-Related Heart Disease and Therapeutic Insights.

Type 2 diabetes is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease, particularly coronary heart disease, heart failure, and diabetic cardiomyopathy. Diabetic cardiomyopathy, characterized by heart dysfunction in the absence of coronary artery disease or hypertension, is triggered by various mechanisms, including hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, and inflammation. At the cellular level, increased insulin resistance leads to an imbalance in lipid and glucose metabolism, causing oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and excess production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This disr

Myotonic dystrophy type 1: clinical diversity, molecular insights and therapeutic perspectives.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is the most prevalent muscular dystrophy in adulthood and is one of the most clinically diverse monogenic diseases. Although it is classified as a neuromuscular disease, DM1 is a multisystem disorder that affects nearly all organ systems, particularly skeletal and smooth muscles, the central nervous system and the heart. Its phenotypic variability extends beyond a continuum of severity, encompassing differences in age of onset and organ involvement. DM1 is caused by a trinucleotide (CTG) repeat expansion within the 3' untranslated region of the DMPK gene, leadin

Clinical and Molecular Spectrum of Infantile Hypercalcemia Type I: Insights Into CYP24A1 Variants.

BACKGROUND: Inactivating pathogenic variants (PVs) in CYP24A1 (MIM*126065), which encodes the enzyme vitamin D-24-hydroxylase, were initially identified in patients with infantile hypercalcemia (IH). Although CYP24A1 PVs were originally associated with a recessive inheritance pattern, it is now understood that heterozygous (monoallelic) variants may also lead to milder phenotypes. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Eight patients from six families, who presented with hypercalcemia, normal or elevated 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D3), suppressed or low-normal parathyroid hormone (PTH), and hypercalciuria and

Molecular and clinicopathological features of KIT/PDGFRA wild-type gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Approximately 10% of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) harbor reportedly no KIT and PDGFRA mutations (wild-type GISTs). The clinicopathological features and oncologic outcomes of wild-type GISTs based on molecular profiles are unknown. We recruited 35 wild-type GIST patients from the two registry studies of high-risk GISTs between 2012 and 2015 and primary GISTs between 2003 and 2014. Molecular profiling of wild-type GISTs was performed by targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tumor samples. Among 35 wild-type GISTs, targeted NGS analysis detect

Sub-types of insomnia in adolescents: Insights from a quantitative/molecular twin study.

BACKGROUND: Insomnia with short sleep duration has been postulated as more severe than that accompanied by normal/long sleep length. While the short duration subtype is considered to have greater genetic influence than the other subtype, no studies have addressed this question. This study aimed to compare these subtypes in terms of: (1) the heritability of insomnia symptoms; (2) polygenic scores (PGS) for insomnia symptoms and sleep duration; (3) the associations between insomnia symptoms and a wide variety of traits/disorders. METHODS: The sample comprised 4000 pairs of twins aged 16 from th

Detection of molecular signatures and pathways shared by Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are common in the general elderly population, conferring heavy individual, social, and economic stresses on families and society. Accumulating evidence indicates T2D to be a risk factor for AD. However, the underlying mechanisms for this association are largely unknown. This study aimed to identify the shared molecular signatures between AD and T2D through integrated analysis of temporal cortex gene expression data.
