Painful tumors of the skin present as dermal or subcutaneous nodules. They can originate from several sources: adipose tissue, cartilage degeneration, deposition of bone or calcium, eccrine glands, fibrous tissue, infiltration of benign (endometrium) or malignant (metastatic neoplasm) tissue, muscle, nerve, or vascular structures. Although pathologic evaluation of the lesion is necessary to determine the diagnosis, it is possible to make a reasonable differential diagnosis based on knowledge of prior tumors that have appeared as tender lesions. Two women with painful skin tumors - either osteo

INTRODUCTION: Odontogenic fibroma is a rare benign neoplasm of mature fibrous connective tissue with variable amounts of inactive-looking odontogenic epithelium. Few recurrences of central odontogenic fibroma (COF) have been reported in the literature. This manuscript reports the enucleation of a recurrent COF and bone regeneration of the osseous defect with enamel matrix derivative and bone allograft.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old Asian female presented in 2015 with a palatal depression between #10 and 11. The patient previously had an odontogenic fibroma between #10 and 11 removed in 200

Spontaneous remissions (SRs) in blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms (BPDCNs) are infrequent, poorly documented, and transient. We report a 40-year-old man presenting with bycitopenia and soft tissue infection. The bone marrow exhibited 3% abnormal cells. Immunophenotyping of these cells revealed the antigens CD45+ (dim), CD34+, CD117+, CD123+ (bright), HLA-DR+ (bimodal), CD56+ (bright), CD33+, CD13+, CD2+, and CD22+ (dim) and the partial expression of the CD10+, CD36+, and CD7+ antigens. All other myeloid, monocytic, and lymphoid antigens were negative. Genetic studies showed a compl

Musculoskeletal tumors and tumor-like lesions have an indeterminate appearance on magnetic resonance (MR) images and often display varying degrees and extent of T2 hyperintensity. However, a subset of neoplasms and tumor-like lesions may exhibit prominent areas of T2 hypointensity relative to skeletal muscle. The hypointensity observed on T2-weighted MRI can be caused by various substances, including hemoglobin degradation products, lesions containing calcium and calcification substances, mature collagen fibers, melanin, turbulent and rapid blood flow, and highly cellular lesions. Careful eval

Metastatic tumours of the hand are rare, and therefore, is the subject of only a few publications in the literature. We report on three new cases along with a retrospective and descriptive study with file and literature analysis dating from 1900 to 2017, which reported on 337 studies. To perform the statistical analysis, ordinary lease square regression was used to group the metastases into distal phalanx, proximal/middle phalanx, thumb, hand and carpus. We found 564 metastases at the hand for a total of 482 patients. Of the reported cases, 60% were male. The average age was 59 years. The main

Iv Baker's antifol (BAF) (250 mg/m2/day X 3 consecutive days) was administered to 34 patients with metastatic sarcoma. All patients had received extensive prior therapy including prior chemotherapy and had progressive disease at the start of the study. Liver and renal functions were normal in all patients. Of 29 patients evaluable for response, 25 demonstrated progressive disease and four had stable disease for periods of from 1 to 6 months. No objective responses were observed. The other five patients died from 3 to 12 days after initiation of therapy. Toxicity included myelosuppression of si

INTRODUCTION: Using non-vascularized fibula as autogenous graft has gained much success in reconstruction after tumor resection owing to its simplicity. Donor-site morbidity related to fibula deficiency includes valgus ankle, chronic pain and stress fractures of the ipsilateral tibia.
HYPOTHESIS: Growth potential before skeletal maturity is the most important factor promoting fibular regeneration after non- vascularized harvesting, and its decline with skeletal maturity causes failure of fibular regeneration.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective study of the patients with benign bon

BACKGROUND: Osteoid osteoma is a benign osteoblastic neoplasm characterized by the production of osteoid and immature bone within a highly vascularized, osteogenic connective tissue stroma. This lesion predominantly occurs in individuals during their second and third decades of life, with a male-to-female predilection ratio of 2:1 to 3:1. This report presents an uncommon case of a giant osteoid osteoma involving the mandibular ramus managed via complete intraoral surgical excision.

Melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy (MNTI) is a rare neural crest-derived neoplasm typically arising in the craniofacial region. Extracranial involvement, particularly in long bones, is exceedingly uncommon and may pose a diagnostic challenge. We report a 4.5-month-old male infant presenting with a rapidly enlarging forearm mass involving the radius with soft tissue extension. The initial biopsy suggested a malignant round cell tumor of neuroectodermal differentiation. A diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma was considered, based on clinicoradiological impression. The tumor showed poor response to

Ewing sarcoma is an aggressive neoplasm that is common among children and adolescents, most frequently affecting the pelvis and long bones. Although rare, Ewing sarcoma is known to also occur in extraosseous locations, affecting a broad range of soft tissue structures. The diagnosis of extraosseous Ewing sarcoma is difficult given the nonspecific symptomatology, often related to local tumor burden. Radiological features of this entity overlap with other common malignancies, as Ewing sarcoma typically presents on computed tomography (CT) as a heterogeneous mass containing areas of necrosis and

Myelofibrosis is a myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by the buildup of fibrous scar tissue in the bone marrow occurring secondary to the secretion of inflammatory cytokines, leading to cytopenias, dysfunctional hematopoiesis, and constitutional symptoms. One of the pathologic mechanisms that underlies myelofibrosis is aberrant activation of the Janus kinase (JAK)-STAT pathway. Targeting the JAK-STAT pathway via JAK inhibition can lead to significant improvements in spleen volume reduction and symptom improvement in intermediate- and high-risk myelofibrosis. The first JAK inhibitor appr

Benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors (BPNSTs) are a vast, common, heterogeneous group of lesions that are often diagnostically challenging. The head and neck region is recognized as the second most common location for these lesions, especially the tongue. However, BPNSTs occurring centrally within the jaw bones are exceedingly rare. To date, approximately 161 cases of intraosseous BPNSTs have been reported in the jaws. This group mainly includes the relatively more common neurofibromas and schwannomas, and the less common perineuriomas and hybrid forms. Unlike soft tissues, schwannomas are th

Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors are very rare mesenchymal neoplasms arising in various locations, such as the female genital tract, kidney, lung, prostate, bladder, pancreas, soft tissues, and bone. They possess a unique immunophenotype, co-expressing myogenic and melanocytic markers; molecular findings include mutations of tuberous sclerosis complex and translocations of transcription factor E3, a member of the microphthalmia transcription factor gene family. We herewith report a uterine collision tumor consisting of a perivascular epithelioid cell tumor and a moderately differentiated e

Extramedullary acute myeloid leukemia (EML), also known as myeloid sarcoma (MS), is an extramedullary solid mass derived from the proliferation of myeloblasts outside of the bone marrow. EML can present independently or concurrently with intramedullary acute myeloid leukemia (iAML). It can happen de novo or secondary to iAML, myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN), chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML), or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). We present a 57-year-old female with a history of Janus kinase 2 (JAK-2)-positive essential thrombocythemia (ET) evolving into EML in the setting of a persistent

Dural extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma) is a rare entity without an associated recurrent genetic abnormality. Only one case has been described in a woman with history of breast carcinoma without a known genetic predisposition. Here, we report a case of a 56-year-old woman heterozygous for XRCC2 mutation with a history of Graves' disease and bilateral breast carcinomas, who was found to have a diffusely infiltrative extra-axial mass in the high parietal convexity with infiltration into the adjacent superior sagittal sinus. The morphologic, im

Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is a rare and aggressive chondrogenic neoplasm arising from the bone or the soft tissue. Mesenchymal chondrosarcomas develop outside the osseous structures in about one-third of cases, and the majority of these occur in the meninges and the brain parenchyma. Intramuscular extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (EMC) is exceedingly rare, with very few cases reported in the literature. Although mesenchymal chondrosarcoma has a high potential for metastasis, there have been no reports of pulmonary metastasis from an EMC of intramuscular origin. Here, we describe a pat

Mastocytosis is an incurable and sometimes fatal haematological disorder grossly described as the accumulation of abnormal mast cells in the bone marrow and other organs causing tissue and organ damage. The clinical manifestations of this disease are extremely variable; disease phenotypes range from indolent to aggressive, and often present with associated non-mast cell haematological disorders (AHNMD), mainly myeloproliferative neoplasm and myelodysplastic syndromes. Recent efforts to genetically dissect the mechanisms that define aggressive and non-aggressive mastocytosis have generated a li

Extra-nodal low-grade B-cell lymphomas arising in the gastrointestinal tract recapitulate the structure and features of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue, called "MALT lymphomas." In the head and neck region except for the salivary glands the occurrence of this neoplasm is very rare. The authors report on two such cases of MALT lymphoma, one of the hard palate in a 71-year-old woman and the other of the paranasal sinuses in a 69-year-old woman with the history of chronic sinusitis. Such chronic inflammatory conditions can induce the development of MALT lymphoma. Clinical elaboration should inc

Epithelioid haemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm characterised by proliferation of vascular endothelial and pre-endothelial cells. The prevalence is less than one in a million people. It is principally observed in the soft tissues of the extremities but can also occur in the bone, brain, liver, lung and lymph nodes. EHE in the head and neck region is very rare. The most common site of occurrence in the head and neck is the submandibular region. To the best of our knowledge, there are only four cases of EHE reported in the orbit. We herein present the unusual case of a 22-yea
