Acrokeratosis paraneoplastica, or Bazex syndrome, is one of the paraneoplastic syndromes. Sixty-five primary malignant laryngeal tumours, other than simple squamous cell carcinomas, treated at the Royal Marsden Hospital between 1949 and 1984 are presented. Of the 11 histological types pseudosarcomas (24 cases), verrucous carcinomas (9 cases) and lymphoreticular tumours (9 cases) predominated. A squamous odontogenic tumor (SOT) is an epithelial locally benign neoplasia derived from the periodontium of the jaws. It is considered a lesion of low incidence. Necrotizing sialometaplasia, is a benign inflammatory lesion primarily involving the minor salivary glands of the hard palate. The lesion often presents itself as a deep-seated palatal ulcer with clinical and histological features similar to those of a malignant neoplasm. Here we report a case of necrotizing sialometaplasia in a 40-year-old female, present on the lateral border of the tongue, mimicking squamous cell carcinoma, clinically. A correct diagnosis to avoid mutilant surgical treatments is essential, considering that it is a self-limiting disease.

Adenocarcinoma is the most common malignant neoplasm of the gallbladder, but squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is rare with an incidence of 1.4 approximately 3.3%. We present a recent case of a 63-year-old man complaining of abdominal distention. Preoperative US and CT revealed a large tumor of the gallbladder infiltrating the liver and transverse colon. Cholecystectomy, subsegmental resection of the liver, lymph node dissection, and partial resection of the transverse colon were performed. The resected specimen was histologically diagnosed as SCC without nodal metastases.

Ulcerative lesions of the penis have many possible etiologies, including infectious, neoplastic, traumatic, drug-induced, and autoimmune. Although the most frequent neoplasm presenting as an ulcerative penile lesion is squamous cell carcinoma, it may rarely be a manifestation of other malignancies, including those of hematolymphoid origin. We report a case of ulcerative balanoposthitis as a manifestation of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other hematolymphoid malignancies should be considered in the large differential diagnosis of nonhealing penile ulcers.

A 65-year-old white man presented with all the clinical features of acrokeratosis paraneoplastica of Bazex, characterized by violaceous erythema and scaling of the nose, aural helices, fingers, and toes, with keratoderma and severe nail dystrophy. Examination of the patient for possible associated malignancy disclosed an asymptomatic squamous cell carcinoma at the oropharyngeal region. The skin lesions resolved almost completely following radiation therapy of the neoplasm, but the onychodystrophy persisted. This case report illustrates the importance of early recognition of Bazex syndrome.
