This paper reports the use of a tin dioxide multisensor array based electronic nose for recognition of 29 typical aromas in white wine. Headspace technique has been used to extract aroma of the wine. Multivariate analysis, including principal component analysis (PCA) as well as probabilistic neural networks (PNNs), has been used to identify the main aroma added to the wine. The results showed that in spite of the strong influence of ethanol and other majority compounds of wine, the system could discriminate correctly the aromatic compounds added to the wine with a minimum accuracy of 97.2%.

Foreign bodies in the nose and sinuses can cause chronic infections. Long titanium fixtures through the maxilla to the zygomatic bone were followed up with a sinuscope in 14 patients after more than one year. There were no signs of infection or inflammation in the mucosa around the fixtures.

Nasal nitric oxide (NO) exchange dynamics are poorly understood but potentially are of importance, inasmuch as they may provide insight into the NO-related physiology of the bronchial tree. The granulomatous disorders discussed in this review are Wegener's granulomatosis (WG), lymphomatoid granulomatosis (polymorphic reticulosis) and "idiopathic midline granuloma". 121 habitual nose-bleeders were investigated. In all but one, local changes were found in the nasal mucosa. Abnormal vessels (varicose vessels, telangioma, or a network of small vessels) were found in 102 (84%), and 18 (15%) had mucosal atrophy (rhinitis anterior sicca or septal perforation) without abnormal vessels. Fifty-seven patients between the ages of zero and 16 years, treated for nasal fractures during childhood by means of closed reduction, have been subjected to follow-up examination after development of the nose has ceased. These patients have been compared to a control group of 50 persons without any known nasal trauma. This paper deals with the long-term follow-up of cartilage autografts taken from various parts of the body to reconstruct areas of the nose, ear, trachea, eyelid, and other areas of the body which require augmentation, effacement, and long-term support. Our thesis will be that the cartilage autograft is the implant of choice in many of these areas, and that fate of autogenous cartilage is well known and should be given strong priority in facial grafting.

In a longitudinal study, esthetic and functional sequelae after nasal fracture in 49 patients during the growth period had been analysed. The incidence of follicle mites (Demodex) has been studied in 206 non-selected subjects by means of adhesive tape impressions on skin during daytime of nose and lids and moist storage of the tape. The incidence was seen to rise with increasing age: 4% in young subjects, 30% in the age group of 20 to 80, and 47% in older.
