Talk or text to tell? How young adults in Canada and South Africa prefer to receive STI results, counseling, and treatment updates in a wireless world.

Young adults often lack access to confidential, long-lasting, and nonjudgmental interactions with sexual health professionals at brick-and-mortar clinics. To ensure that patients return for their STI test results, post-result counseling, and STI-related information, computer-mediated health intervention programming allows them to receive sexual health information through onsite computers, the Internet, and mobile phone calls and text messages. To determine whether young adults (age: M = 21 years) prefer to communicate with health professionals about the status of their sexual health through co

Cross-sectoral follow-up after hospital discharge from a geriatric ward: a study protocol of a randomised controlled trial (G-UD).

BACKGROUND: Advancing age is associated with multimorbidity, polypharmacy and functional impairments and older adults with these characteristics are at increased risk of acute admission and readmission. Readmission rate of geriatric patients is high, especially within the first week after discharge. Previous studies on transitional care interventions have mainly showed positive effects, but no study has assessed the effect of a home visit done jointly by a geriatric nurse and a community nurse, with a systematic review of health functions, objective clinical assessment and bedside blood analys

Inflammatory bowel disease: investigations used in its diagnosis and monitoring.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic health condition characterised by gastrointestinal tract inflammation. The two main types of IBD are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. More than half a million people in the UK have a diagnosis of IBD, therefore nurses working in a range of settings - including general practice, community care and acute care - may encounter patients with these conditions. A wide range of interventions are used to diagnose IBD and for ongoing monitoring post-diagnosis. This article details the main investigations patients with IBD are likely to undergo, includ

Nurses' Perspectives on a Communication Model Between Providers and Mechanically Ventilated Patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

BACKGROUND: Communication with mechanically ventilated patients in intensive care is complex. Decades of research demonstrate that communication barriers are commonly experienced and one of the most challenging experiences during an intensive care stay. Support for the health care providers in these situations could be a model for communication, guiding the interaction. AIM: The aim of this study was to examine critical care nurses' (CCNs') perspectives of the clinical relevance and applicability of a communication model for mechanically ventilated patients. Crossing boundaries: communication between professional groups.

The NHS reforms increased emphasis on a managerial culture. In primary care this raised questions about responsibility and philosophical approaches. Greater integration between agencies brings benefits, but creates tensions. Failure to bridge the gap may result in dysfunctional teams and compromised quality of patient care. The different orientations may manifest themselves in several ways but lead to frictions that can breed hostility and prevent effective teamwork. Explores issues involving social service and community nurse teams in Dorset to identify a new framework for working, by recogni

Nursing student training as a novel approach to increasing community-based access to contraception in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: evaluation of outcomes.

This study evaluated the scale-up of an innovative approach to increasing modern contraceptive use in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on multiple outcomes: fidelity to design, acceptability, sustainability, satisfaction, adoption by other organizations, and penetration. The intervention consisted of incorporating a family planning (FP) module into the training of third-year nursing students, who then counseled and delivered services during community outreach events as their practicum several times annually in selected provinces. Effects of Simulation on Nursing students' Knowledge and Learning Related to Measles Vaccine and Vaccine Hesitancy: A Mixed Method Study.

Vaccine hesitancy is a persistent, global public health concern that community health nurses are well-positioned to manage. Simulations involving standardized patients are effective experiential learning on managing vaccine hesitancy for other allied health disciplines. A pretest-posttest design, with a mixed-methods, one-group, quasi-experimental approach, was used to examine the effectiveness of a simulation on nursing students' knowledge of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine hesitancy, as well as their attitudes toward the intervention. The study was completed with 61 participants. After p
