Doping generally introduces performance trade-offs in materials, yet overcoming this fundamental limitation remains crucial for advancing materials research. Bi2O2Se exhibits exceptional electronic properties as a promising semiconductor, yet its nonlinear optical response under low excitation intensities hinders its practical applications. Therefore, precise Sb3⁺ doping in Bi2O2Se (Bi1.9Sb0.1O2Se) is achieved for the first time via solid-state reaction and systematically studies its impact on the electronic structure and optical properties through first-principles calculations and experimenta

Non-invasive biosensors have attracted attention for their potential to obtain continuous, real-time physiological information through measurements of biochemical markers, such as one of the most important-glucose, in biological fluids. Although some optical sensing materials are used in non-invasive devices for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), surface or localized plasmon sensing material are seldom applied in CGM owing to modest sensitivity and bulk sensing apparatus. Herein, a metasurface (MGMSPR) biosensor based on the metasurface plasmon resonance chip modified with heterostructured T

Antiferromagnetic materials feature intrinsic ultrafast spin dynamics, making them ideal candidates for future magnonic devices operating at THz frequencies. A major focus of current research is the investigation of optical methods for the efficient generation of coherent magnons in antiferromagnetic insulators. In magnetic lattices endowed with orbital angular momentum, spin-orbit coupling enables spin dynamics through the resonant excitation of low-energy electric dipoles such as phonons and orbital resonances which interact with spins. However, in magnetic systems with zero orbital angular

The combination of non-specific deformable nanogels and plasmonic optical probes provides an innovative solution for specific sensing using a generalistic recognition layer. Soft polyacrylamide nanogels that lack specific selectivity but are characterized by responsive behavior, i.e., shrinking and swelling dependent on the surrounding environment, were grafted to a gold plasmonic D-shaped plastic optical fiber (POF) probe. The nanogel-POF cyclically challenged with water or alcoholic solutions optically reported the reversible solvent-to-phase transitions of the nanomaterial, embodying a prim

Numerous diseases such as hemorrhage, sepsis or cardiogenic shock induce a heterogeneous perfusion of the capillaries. To detect such alterations in the human blood flow pattern, diagnostic devices must provide an appropriately high spatial resolution. Shifted position-diffuse reflectance imaging (SP-DRI) has the potential to do so; it is an all-optical diagnostic technique. So far, SP-DRI has mainly been developed using Monte Carlo simulations. The present study is therefore validating this algorithm experimentally on realistic optical phantoms with thread structures down to 10 μm in diameter

Optofluidic devices combining optics and microfluidics have recently attracted attention for biomolecular analysis due to their high detection sensitivity. Here, we show a silicon chip with tubular microchannels buried inside the substrate featuring temperature gradient (∇T) along the microchannel. We set up an optical fluorescence system consisting of a power-modulated laser light source of 470 nm coupled to the microchannel serving as a light guide via optical fiber. Fluorescence was detected on the other side of the microchannel using a photomultiplier tube connected to an optical fiber via

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted interest because of their unique physical, electronic, and optical characteristics. When thinned to a monolayer, several TMDs undergo an indirect-to-direct bandgap transition and exhibit exceptional optoelectronic characteristics. In contrast to graphene and other 2D materials, TMDs possess intrinsic bandgaps, phase-dependent conductivity, and chemically active edge sites, which facilitate efficient signal transduction and selective biomolecular interfacing. This review presents an overview of TMD-based biosensors, systematically correlating materi

Magnetomotive optical coherence tomography (MMOCT) is a promising imaging method for noninvasive three-dimensional tracking of magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) motions in target tissues or organs. The external B-field is the driving force that provides MMOCT contrast. However, B-field modulation also introduces modulation noise, thereby decreasing the quality of the MMOCT image. In this paper, a common-path-based device is designed for modulation noise reduction. The device is capable of adjusting interference distance, reference light intensity, and imaging position (X-Y translation). The sensitiv

Two-dimensional magnetic semiconductors have recently attracted considerable attention owing to their potential for integrating charge, spin, and optical functionalities in next-generation nanoelectronics and spintronic devices. However, achieving efficient and controllable spin-polarized transport, particularly beyond conventional thermoelectric mechanisms, remains a major challenge, and the role of symmetry breaking and spin-selective optical transitions is still not fully understood. This work researches the structural stability, electronic properties, magnetic characteristics, thermoelectr

Quantum dots (QDs) have been extensively studied for their unique optical and electronic properties arising from quantum confinement. In particular, less toxic and environment-friendly InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs have been successfully commercialized in display devices, but their low absorption characteristic still limits external quantum efficiency (EQE). As multidirectional structural engineering has brought internal quantum yield (QY) close to unity, further improvements in EQE now depend on enhancing light absorption, often achieved via photonic cavities integrated with plasmonic materials. However,

Solid-liquid interfaces govern key functions in biosensing, catalysis, energy conversion, drug delivery, and organic electronic devices because molecular adsorption, hydration, charge regulation, and structural reorganization occur within an ultrathin interfacial region. However, these phenomena are intrinsically multiscale and multidimensional, involving strongly coupled variables such as mass, interfacial potential, molecular orientation, viscoelasticity, and local nanoscale heterogeneity. As a result, no single measurement technique can fully describe interfacial states or their dynamics. T

In the case of waveguide-based devices, once they are fabricated, their optical properties are already determined and cannot be dynamically controlled, which limits their applications in practice. In this paper, an isosceles triangular-coupling structure which consists of an isosceles triangle coupled with a two-bus waveguide is proposed and researched numerically and theoretically. The coupled mode theory (CMT) is introduced to verify the correctness of the simulation results, which are based on the finite difference time domain (FDTD). Due to the existence of the side mode and angular mode,

Fullerene C60 is a ubiquitous material for application in organic electronics and nanotechnology, due to its desirable optoelectronic properties including good molecular orbital alignment with electron-rich donor materials, as well as high and isotropic charge carrier mobility. However, C60 possesses two limitations that hinder its integration into large-scale devices: (1) poor solubility in common organic solvents leading to expensive device processing, and (2) poor optical absorbance in the visible portion of the spectrum. Covalent functionalization has long been the standard for introducing

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO; Devic's syndrome or Devic's disease) is a clinically defined disorder consisting of optic neuritis (ON) in combination with myelitis. Its nosological relationship to other central nervous system demyelinating diseases remains uncertain. Advances in understanding of its natural history and pathophysiology may eventually allow determination of whether idiopathic NMO represents a specific disease. This article summarizes recent progress in these areas of NMO research.

With the rapid growth of optical computing and integrated photonics, low-power optoelectronic logic devices are essential for on-chip information processing. Conventional implementations rely on multiple discrete components, limiting system scalability. We demonstrate a wavelength-dependent bipolar optoelectronic logic device based on a ReS2/Gr/h-BN/Gr van der Waals heterostructure. The fundamental mechanism is VOC-dictated: under 365 nm illumination, a substantial VOC magnitude defines a high-capacity absorption response and a photovoltaic (PV) process, generating a negative photocurrent. Atomically thin semiconductors exhibit tunable exciton resonances that can be harnessed for dynamic manipulation of visible light in ultra-compact metadevices. However, the rapid nonradiative decay and dephasing of excitons at room temperature limit current active excitonic metasurfaces to a few-percent efficiencies. Here, we leverage the combined merits of pristine 2D heterostructures and non-local dielectric metasurfaces to enhance the excitonic light-matter interaction, achieving strong and electrically tunable exciton-photon coupling at ambient conditions in a hybrid-2D excitonic metasurfa

Sliding ferroelectric (FE) metals provide a practical route to combine switchable out-of-plane polarization with metallicity, yet realizing electrically reversible magnetization and Berry-curvature-driven anomalous transport and magneto-optical effects in a topological system remains challenging. Here, we establish a symmetry-based framework for sliding FE metals with ferrimagnetism. We show that interlayer sliding breaks the combined spin space symmetry, thereby inducing reversible out-of-plane polarization, nonrelativistic spin splitting, and finite net magnetization, namely, triply-coupled
