The occurrence of upper lid ptosis in 66 patients in the anophthalmic state was 18 percent, despite an adequate prosthesis. The commonly cited causes for this entity do not hold up under examination. A detailed review of the anatomy of the levator mechanism and of the anatomy of an enucleation suggests that the etiology is really based on the production of a mechanical imbalance in the levator apparatus. Suggestions for management and for the timing of the correction (in relation to other surgical procedures) are made.

A standardised method with an original reference line in C.A.T. exploration of the orbital region permits to visualize the entire orbital region with four tomographic scannings when using 6 mm tomographic sections. Some exemples of orbital lesions are demonstrated as optic nerve tumor, dysthyroïd exopthalmos, maxillary sinus tumor with extension into the orbit.

A 14-year-old youth had a 2 month history of proptosis of the left eye when he developed pain in the left thigh. Physical examination revealed a mass involving the left orbit and a neurologic deficit suggestive of involvement of the left lumbosacral plexus. Uranium dioxide, UO2, is a canonical example of a magnetic material with strong spin-orbit coupling. Here, we present a study of the magnetic diffuse scattering measured on a polycrystalline sample of UO2, which we interpret in terms of its magnetic interactions between U4+magnetic moments. Transforming rovibronic Hamiltonians of molecular systems from the ΛS (Hund's case a) basis to the adiabatic Ω representation is widely used to "remove" spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and enable single-state treatments of spectra and dynamics. We show that this simplification is only apparent: the SOC elimination necessarily generates sizable nonadiabatic couplings (NACs) from the nuclear kinetic energy operator. Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnets for spintronic applications require both a high enough Curie temperature (TC) and large coercivity.
