A New Method of Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis with Osteodistraction Using the Sh-Device: A Case Report.

This case report presents a 16-year-old boy with bilateral temporomandibular joint (TMJ) bony ankylosis due to trauma. The patient had undergone several unsuccessful therapeutic surgeries and was experiencing reduced mouth opening, difficulty in eating and speaking, poor oral hygiene, snoring, and depression. Bilateral gap arthroplasty and distraction osteogenesis (DO) were performed. After the surgery, we were able to move the osteodistractors forward and prevent the upward and backward movement of the proximal mandibular segment with the use of our custom-made Sh-device, which allowed bone g

[Reason for failure in the treatment of impacted and retained teeth].

The positioning of an impacted or retained tooth in either children or adults presents a real challenge for the two practitioners involved, the orthodontist and the surgeon in charge of the surgical exposure. The maxillary canine is the tooth most often impacted in the anterior segment, with a prevalence of 2% in the general population. One can understand, therefore, the functional and esthetic challenge for the surgical-orthodontic team whose aim will be to reposition the impacted or retained tooth in the arch. A large number of mistakes must be avoided in order to achieve a satisfactory resu

[Dental anomalies following anticancer chemotherapy].

Chemotherapy administered during childhood may induce dental abnormalities, such as acquired amelogenesis imperfecta, microdontia, hypodontia and altered root morphology. The magnitude of the defect varies according to the cytotoxic agents, the duration of their use and the stage of tooth development at the time of chemotherapy. Patients who received high-dose chemotherapy before the age of 5 are particularly concerned. The dental supervision of these children is based upon three orthopantomograms: the first one has to be performed before starting chemotherapy and will be used as a reference;

Skin irritation from a facial mask in Class III malocclusion: evaluation of individual silicone chin cups in a group of 100 children.

BACKGROUND: Reverse headgear (a facial mask) is one of the most frequently used interceptive orthodontic devices in patients with Class III malocclusion. It is a simple device but may present some drawbacks related to pressure on the skin generated by the forehead and chin supports linked to the maxillary intraoral appliance by elastics. This can cause injury to the chin and lips. METHODS: Patients between 7 and 8 years of age were selected from the Unit of Pediatric Dentistry. Orthopedic therapy with a rapid palatal expander and reverse headgear was prescribed for all subjects. The patients

Curcumin inhibits the migration of osteoclast precursors and osteoclastogenesis by repressing CCL3 production.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: Curcumin can inhibit the osteoclastogenesis and the migration of several cells including macrophages. Osteoclast precursors (OCPs) are known to exist as bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMMs). This study aims to explore whether curcumin can prevent the fusion and differentiation of OCPs to mature osteoclasts by inhibiting OCP migration. METHODS: In this study, we investigated the role of curcumin in regulating the production of several chemokines (CCL2, CCL3 and CX3CL1) and the migration of OCPs by ELISA, Western blotting and Transwell assays. Furthermore, we explored the role of

Patient education in dental medicine: A review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION: In dental medicine, chronic diseases and chronic conditions (such as chronic periodontitis, temporomandibular disorders, chronic orofacial pain) justify patient education to self-care. This strategy of secondary or tertiary prevention, even if officially recognised, is still less known compared to health education, a form of primary prevention. The aim of the study was to make the point of recent studies devoted to patient education. Thus, the purpose of the study was to give an updated picture of patient education in odontology, describing, through an analysis of the internation

Reduced frequency of nickel allergy upon oral nickel contact at an early age.

From animal studies we know that oral administration of T-dependent antigens before sensitization effectively induces systemic immune unresponsiveness. Such 'oral tolerance' is persistent, dose-dependent, antigen-specific and presumably T suppressor cell-mediated. Oral tolerance induction could be an effective way to prevent undesired T cell-mediated immune functions, such as playing a role in allograft reaction, autoimmune and allergic diseases. In the present study allergic contact hypersensitivity (ACH) to nickel, currently presenting the most frequent contact allergy in man, was chosen to

PIEZO1 mediates orthodontic tension force-induced alveolar bone remodeling via the Ca²⁺/YAP-TAZ pathway in periodontal ligament stem cells.

BACKGROUND: Periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) orchestrate alveolar bone remodeling during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM), yet the molecular mechanism translating tension force into coupled osteogenic and anti-osteoclastic responses remains elusive. This study aimed to define the dual mechanosensitive role of PIEZO1 in PDLSCs for simultaneously promoting osteogenesis and suppressing osteoclastogenesis via the Ca²⁺/YAP-TAZ/OPG-RANKL signaling axis. METHODS: Human PDLSCs were isolated, characterized for mesenchymal markers, and exposed to cyclic tension (10% strain, 0.5 Hz) using a Flex

Evaluation of the First Metacarpal Bone Head and Distal Radius Bone Architecture Using Fractal Analysis of Adolescent Hand-Wrist Radiographs.

The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in bone trabecular structure during adolescence using the fractal analysis (FA) method on hand-wrist radiographs (HWRs) and to evaluate the relationship of these changes with pubertal growth stages. HWRs of healthy individuals aged 8-18 years were included (N = 600). Pubertal stages were determined by the Fishman method and divided into 10 groups (early puberty [EP], pre-peak [PRPK], peak [PK], post-peak [PTPK], late puberty [LP]). FA was performed using FIJI (ImageJ) software and the BoneJ plugin on circular regions of interest (ROIs) selec

Inhibition of NCOA4/FTH1-mediated ferritinophagy attenuates ferroptosis in PDLCs and alleviates orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption.

BACKGROUND: Disruption of iron homeostasis is closely associated with ferroptosis and inflammation-related diseases. Nuclear receptor coactivator 4 (NCOA4)-mediated ferritinophagy plays a central role in regulating intracellular iron levels and inducing ferroptosis. However, its involvement in orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR) remains largely unexplored. METHODS : In vitro, a compressive force (CF) loading model was established using human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs). Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining were performed to detect the expression of
