This paper describes oral findings in an adult population with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) in Norway (n=94). All participants underwent a structured interview and an oral examination. Panoramic radiographs were analyzed. The findings were compared with data from other Nordic epidemiological studies. Seventeen individuals (19%) had clinical signs of dentinogenesis imperfecta (DI). Persons with OI had twice as many missing teeth as the general population, and the number of endodontically treated teeth was higher than in the general population. Distraction osteogenesis (DO) is a major surgical technique that promotes new bone formation. It was first developed in the long bones and has now been applied to the facial bones. McCarthy et al. were the first to apply the procedure to the human mandible. BACKGROUND: Recent studies reported beneficial effect of cyclical intravenous administration of pamidronate in children and adolescents with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). However, this treatment requires frequent hospital admissions and is relatively expensive. Alendronate is an oral bisphosphonate effectively used in adults with osteoporosis. Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a rare heritable condition characterized by bone fragility and reduced bone mass. We report a case of bilateral hearing loss in a child, caused by osteogenesis imperfecta and we evaluate CT scan findings. A 12-year-old child consulted for bilateral hearing loss. A computed tomography scan of the petrous temporal bone showed bilateral extensive unmineralized bone involving the cochleae, vestibules, and semicircular canals extending to the internal auditory canals. OBJECTIVE: Distraction osteogenesis is an alternative treatment method for the correction of mandibular hypoplasia. In this case report, distraction with a multidirectional extraoral device was performed to gradually lengthen the corpus and ramus of a patient who had a severe hypoplastic mandible.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The patient underwent bilateral extraoral ramus and corpus distraction osteogenesis. After seven days of latency period, distraction was performed 0.5 mm twice a day. Subsequent consolidation period was 12 weeks.

The authors operated on 7 children (5 girls, 2 boys) suffering from osteogenesis imperfecta (oi) type I according to Sillence classification, with lower limbs discrepancy. We present the surgical findings and audiometric results of ear surgery performed between 1961 and 2002 on 33 Finnish patients (43 operations) with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). In years 2001-2003 six children (3 boys ond 3 girls) from 2.1 to 18.7 years old with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) were treated in our clinic. Besides clinical and radiological evaluation, densitometry and biochemical analysis of collagen were performed. Biochemical analysis was performed on cultured in vitro fibroblasts from the skin biopsies. Based on this findings 1 child was graded as type I of OI, 4 children as type III and 1 as type IV. BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a group of closely related inherited diseases characterized by abnormal bone fragility. The current clinical classification system delineates 6 types, one of which (type II) is so severe that mortality is 100%, either intrauterine or perinatal. The types are differentiated by clinical groups, by severity, and by the presence or absence of other features such as blue sclerae or dentinogenesis imperfecta.
