In order to investigate clonorchicidal activity in vivo, boiled water extracts of 32 species of clonorchicidal raw drugs in vitro were orally administered into rabbits infected with Clonorchis sinensis. The results of the observation of EPG variation were as follows: Suppression effects of egg-laying capacity from the rabbits administered Prunus mume and Inula helenium were greatest. Those from Dictamnus dasycarpus and Saussurea lappa were somewhat effective. Machilus thunbergii and Cassia obutusifolia, however, were less effective.

Four cases of Enterobius vermicularis infection and one case of Strongyloides stercoralis infection were found during the examination of 22,700 routine Papanicolaou-stained cervicovaginal smears and 434 urinary sediments. Ova of E. vermicularis were observed in the urocytograms from three girls and in the vaginal smear of a young woman. In a second woman, a S. stercoralis larva was detected in the routine vaginal smear. A clear background or a mild inflammatory pattern was noted in the smears in these cases.

To induce chronic and continuous intestinal blood loss as therapy for congenital polycythemia in a 3 year old child, adult Ancylostoma duodenale were transferred directly from a dog to the patient via a nasoduodenal tube. By transferring adult worms, larval migration via the skin, blood and lungs--with possible attendant undesired side effects--was avoided. Furthermore, by eliminating larval migration with associated intimate tissue contact, immunogenicity was presumably reduced, and a known number of adult worms could be delivered directly to the final predilection site, the small intestine.

Features are described of a new staining method for the detection of Cryptosporidium oocysts in faeces. Smears, fixed in acid-methanol, are stained with heated safranin and counterstained with methylene blue. Oocysts stain a vivid orange-pink and are easily recognized. The method is rapid and simple with little source of error. The daily variation of urinary excretion of Schistosoma haematobium and Schistosoma mansoni ova was assessed in a group of 24 Sudanese schoolboys using the filtration Trypan blue staining technique. An intra-class correlation coefficient of r = 0.88 indicated a surprisingly low daily variation of excretion of S. haematobium ova. In order to interpret the relation between the IgM antibody activities to Toxocara canis (T. canis) and the parasitologic status, sera from puppies and adult dogs were measured by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Seven foals naturally infected with Strongyloides westeri were injected intramuscularly with ivermectin at a dosage rate of 200 mcg per kg body weight. No adverse effects to treatment were observed. Weekly faecal egg counts showed a greater than 99 per cent reduction of S. westeri egg output compared with 7 untreated foals during the 21 days following treatment.

Stool examined for presence of nematodes from 467 school students in Dacca city showed 48% ova positive cases with 22% among them cases of mixed nematode infection. Circulating immune complexes were investigated by the 125I-Clq binding test in serum from patients with fascioliasis. Only 36% of all the patients studied showed significant levels of CIC.
