Because of the scale of the outbreak all the children at the school, and their contacts, were treated on one 'mass treatment day'. Crusted scabies is an infrequent disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei that usually affects patients with underlying medical conditions leading to immunosuppression. Here, we present the case of an 81 years old man, diagnosed with crusted scabies who came to our attention after multiple misdiagnosis and incorrect and potentially detrimental treatment with steroids.
