Eukaryotic cells have multiple forms of endocytosis which maintain cell surface homeostasis. One explanation for this apparent redundancy is to allow independent retrieval of surface membranes derived from different types of vesicles. Doxycycline is a commonly used broad-spectrum antibiotic. Recently, it has been shown that it also inhibits the activity of mammalian collagenases and gelatinases, an activity unrelated to its antimicrobial efficacy. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) was originally characterized as a strong inducer of liver regeneration. However, it is now clear that HGF and its receptor, the proto-oncogene c-met, can be expressed in many other tissues, and that HGF can mediate diverse biological activities. Human vascular endothelial cells play a pivotal role in atherosclerotic changes but are resistant to apoptotic inducers such as Fas ligand and it has been difficult to induce apoptosis. Rats were trained on an olfactory and a control modality (auditory or visual) discrimination task and brain membrane-associated protein kinase C (mPKC) was subsequently assessed using quantitative autoradiography of radiolabelled phorbol ester binding. Factor VIII concentrate inhibits T-cell function in vitro and in vivo. The mechanisms underlying the phenomenon were investigated.
