Histological examinations were conducted on specimens of 368 intervertebral discs (T11/12-L5/S1), using X-ray photography and discography. Specimens were obtained from 61 individuals (36 males and 25 females) whose ages ranged from 25 to 85 years. CT of a patient with conductive hearing loss showed a small vascular structure leaving the carotid canal and passing through the stapes to join the facial nerve canal. The small bony channel paralleled the anterior tympanic segment of the facial nerve, continuing beyond the geniculate ganglion into the middle cranial fossa. Ruptures and dysfunctions of the tibialis posterior tendon are often overlooked or misdiagnosed and can cause considerable loss of function to the patient. This article reviews the etiology, clinical as well as radiologic diagnosis, classification, and alternative surgical approaches. Case reports and photography of magnetic resonance imaging examples are included as well as a description of flexor digitorum longus tendon transfer in the treatment of this disorder.

Lens photography with a fundus camera using retroillumination is suited for long term follow-ups of senile cataract development. An improved method using a 9 grade colour standard is presented, which makes a comparative evaluation of the colour of the fundus reflex possible. A colour filter effect of the lens nucleus in nuclear sclerosis can thus be evaluated.

BACKGROUND: Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) affect over one billion people worldwide and are closely linked to environmental determinants, including unsafe water, poor sanitation, inadequate housing, and vector-borne exposure. Yet, the voices of affected communities remain insufficiently centred in research or policy. Photovoice, a participatory visual method, has potential to reframe the neglect of NTDs by centring affected communities and their lived experiences. This scoping review aims to explore the application of photovoice in NTD research and its related environmental determinants.

BACKGROUND: As trachoma is eliminated, skilled field graders become less adept at correctly identifying active disease (trachomatous inflammation-follicular [TF]). Deciding if trachoma has been eliminated from a district or if treatment strategies need to be continued or reinstated is of critical public health importance. As the opioid crisis escalates across North America, photographers are highlighting the gravity of the situation. However, many of their images of people who use drugs are problematic and stigmatizing. This study looks at how digital storytelling (DST) was used in order to assist long-term heroin users taking part in North America's first heroin-assisted treatment program in Vancouver, BC, in amplifying and sharing their personal experiences.
