Mitral chordae tendineae force profile characterization using a posterior ventricular anchoring neochordal repair model for mitral regurgitation in a three-dimensional-printed ex vivo left heart simulator.

OBJECTIVES: Posterior ventricular anchoring neochordal (PVAN) repair is a non-resectional technique for correcting mitral regurgitation (MR) due to posterior leaflet prolapse, utilizing a single suture anchored in the myocardium behind the leaflet. This technique has demonstrated clinical efficacy, although a theoretical limitation is stability of the anchoring suture. We hypothesize that the PVAN suture positions the leaflet for coaptation, after which forces are distributed evenly with low repair suture forces. METHODS: Porcine mitral valves were mounted in a 3-dimensional-printed heart sim

Expanding the Toolbox of Multi-Material Three-Dimensional-Printed Electrochemical Flow Cells Fabricated in a Single Step: Impinging Jet, Mixing and Dilution, and Dual-Electrode Generator-Collector Electrochemical Cells.

Hydrodynamic electrochemical cells have broad utility in sensing, electrocatalysis, mechanistic studies, and electroanalysis. Here, we report on the expansion of hydrodynamic electrochemical devices that can be fabricated using 3D printing beyond channel flow electrodes to include impinging jet electrodes, a dilution/mixing circuit for in-channel detection of electroactive species, and dual-electrode generator-collector cells. These examples highlight the ability of 3D printing to produce intricate structures with internal voids, enhance analytical functionality, and enable sophisticated opera

Three-Dimensional-Printed Gelatin Methacryloyl Scaffold Loaded with Extracellular Vesicles Derived from H2S Preconditioned Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Promotes Neuronal Regeneration in Rats with Spinal Cord Injury.

BACKGROUND: spinal cord injury (SCI) causes irreversible motor and sensory deficits with limited effective treatments. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) exert therapeutic effects largely through extracellular vesicles (EVs). Preconditioning MSCs with a hydrogen sulfide (H2S) donor enhance the therapeutic potential of EVs. OBJECTIVE: this study is aimed to develop a 3D-printed gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) scaffold loaded with H2S-preconditioned MSC-derived EVs (H2S-EVs) to promote motor function recovery in SCI. METHODS: H2S-EVs were isolated from NaHS (an H2S donor)-preconditioned MSCs and in

Using microwave ablation in combination with curettage and reconstruction with a vascularized iliac bone graft guided by a three-dimensional printed model for the treatment of a grade III talar giant cell tumor: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Juxta-articular giant cell tumors in the talus are very rare and pose a special problem for reconstruction after aggressive tumor curettage. Currently, vascularized iliac bone graft (VIBG) has proven to improve the outcome of partial talus defect, however, technical difficulty occurs when both the three-dimensional fitting for a large cavity and structural support to the articular surface in the talus are needed. Prior publications have demonstrated that the three-dimensional printing technology can improve surgical efficiency on the vascularized bone graft for extremity and mandib

The Use of Customized Three-Dimensionally Printed Mandible Prostheses with a Pressure-Reducing Device: A Finite Element Analysis in Different Chewing Positions, Biomechanical Testing, and In Vivo Animal Study Using Lanyu Pigs.

Segmental bony defects of the mandible constitute a complete loss of the regional part of the mandible. Although several types of customized three-dimension-printed mandible prostheses (CMPs) have been developed, this technique has yet to be widely used. We used CMP with a pressure-reducing device (PRD) to investigate its clinical applicability. First, we used the finite element analysis (FEA). We designed four models of CMP (P1 to P4), and the result showed that CMP with posterior PRD deployment (P4 group) had the maximum total deformation in the protrusion and right excursion positions, and

Three-dimensional printed artificial vertebral body versus titanium mesh cage and nanohydroxyapatite/polyamide-66 cage in anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion: a retrospective cohort study with a minimum 5-year follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF) is a commonly performed procedure for cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) and ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL), but the choice of reconstructive device after corpectomy remains unsettled. Titanium mesh cages (TMCs) and nanohydroxyapatite/polyamide-66 (n-HA/PA66) cages are both widely used in clinical practice, although subsidence and postoperative loss of cervical alignment remain important concerns. Three-dimensional printed artificial vertebral bodies (3DP-AVBs) have been introduced as an alternative recon

The Novel Use of a Custom Three-Dimensional-Printed Polycaprolactone-Tricalcium Phosphate Synthetic Bone Scaffold (Osteopore®) in the Management of a Critical-Sized Bone Defect for a Patient with an Open Intra-Articular Calcaneal Fracture - A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Intra-articular calcaneal fractures are generally treated with open reduction and internal fixation in order to restore calcaneal anatomy as well as subtalar and calcaneocuboid joint congruency. Bone loss is common due to the impaction of cancellous bone beneath the posterior facet as a result of axial loading. Critical-sized bone defects are commonly addressed with the Masquelet "induced membrane technique" incorporating autogenous or allogenous bone graft. Synthetic bone scaffolds are readily available and customizable through three-dimensional (3D) printing. This case report d
