N-succinimidyl-4-[18F]fluorobenzoate ([18F]SFB), a widely used labeling agent to introduce the 4-[18F]fluorobenzoyl-prosthetic group, is normally obtained in three consecutive steps from [18F]fluoride ion. Here, we describe an efficient one-step labeling procedure of [18F]SFB starting from a tin precursor. This method circumvents volatile radioactive side-products and simplifies automatization. A long-time challenge in aqueous CO2 electrochemical reduction is to catalyze the formation of products beyond carbon monoxide with selectivity. In this study, 48 herbal based products (41 for the pediatric population) were analyzed for the presence of ethanol and residual solvents. We studied the subcellular localization of two major secretory products of adult rat submandibular gland (RSMG), blood group A-reactive mucin glycoprotein and glutamine/glutamic acid-rich protein (GRP), by light and electron microscopic immunocytochemistry. The structure of the major neutral oligosaccharide of the mucin was shown to be: GalNAc alpha 1,3(Fuc alpha 1,2)Gal beta 1,3GalNAc. A mouse monoclonal antibody (1F9) with specificity for blood group A determinants was prepared against the mucin. The antibody recognized a single band of approximately 114 KD on Western blots of RSMG extract.

OBJECTIVES: To examine the nutritional quality of gluten-free (GF) products specifically marketed for children.
METHODS: All child-targeted food products were purchased from 2 major supermarket chains in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Using the Pan American Health Organization Nutrient Profile Model, the nutritional quality of products with a GF claim was compared with those without such a claim. A secondary analysis further compared the nutrient profile of child-targeted GF products to their product "equivalents."

A morphometric study confirmed that increasing severity of the jejunal mucosal morphologic lesion is accompanied by increased crypt height and reduced villus length in patients with tropical sprue.
