Person-centred care - radiographers' perceptions of the framework and its performance in radiography. A phenomenographic study.

INTRODUCTION: Person-centred care is being implemented in healthcare to facilitate co-created care and patients' participation in their own care. This is a new practice, also among radiographers. The aim of the study was to explore radiographers' perceptions of the framework of person-centred care and its performance in radiography. METHODS: Phenomenography was the study design. Focus group discussions and interviews were performed within a period of three months with a group of five radiographers in clinical practice. The discussions were part of a training programme on the theory and practi

Patient expectations of a new treatment for eating disorders combining guided physical exercise and dietary therapy: an interview study of women participating in a randomised controlled trial at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences.

OBJECTIVES: To study the expectations women with bulimia nervosa (BN) or binge eating disorder (BED) had to a new treatment programme based on guided physical exercise and dietary therapy. DESIGN AND PARTICIPANTS: Semistructured interviews were conducted with six women with BN and four women with BED following a group-based therapy programme. Transcribed interviews were analysed using a text-condensing analytic approach. RESULTS: The analysis resulted in three main categories, that is, expectations about (1) increased knowledge, (2) symptom changes and (3) therapeutic expertise. The women ex

A Task Analysis of Client Re-engagement: Therapeutic De-escalation of High-Conflict Coparents.

Parents who are engaged in protracted conflict following a divorce are often referred to coparenting therapy. Episodes of intense conflict are common during these therapy sessions and often result in coparents disengaging from the therapist while they engage in escalating conflict with each other, potentially disrupting their progress in therapy. The purpose of this study was to identify how therapists successfully re-engage clients in the session. To understand this process, 24 disengagement events (12 successful and 12 unsuccessful) from 13 cases were analyzed using a task analytic approach.

How do client and therapists in online text therapy experience their exchanges and relationship?

The impact of online therapy text exchanges and the client-therapist alliance was compared to previously published means and standard deviations on face-to-face therapy using an aggregate benchmarking strategy. Further, the moderating effects of 4 participant factors found significant in the face-to-face therapy literature was investigated using mixed modeling analytic techniques. Thirty therapists and 30 clients visited an online site to report weekly to complete session impact and therapeutic alliance measures for a minimum of six weeks, which allowed for a naturalistic and nuanced examinati

Person-centered care and speech and language therapy.

Person-centered care (PCC) has become the foundation for practice in many areas of health care provision. Research has suggested that providing PCC may improve therapy outcomes, client satisfaction, and perceived quality of care, as well as address aspects of evidence-based practice. As members of the health care provider community, speech-language pathologists (SLPs) will be expected to provide PCC as part of their therapeutic interactions. Some research, however, has indicated that SLPs have a tendency to provide more structured, task-oriented therapies. In this article, a working definition

Postdischarge follow-up of psychiatric inpatients and readmission in an HMO setting.

This study examined the relationship between follow-up and rehospitalization of inpatients discharged from treatment in two divisions of a health maintenance organization (HMO). Among 580 patients discharged, two-thirds made a follow-up visit within 30 days. Slightly less than a third were readmitted within six months. Readmission was less likely for patients who made a follow-up visit and for men. Patients who had a preadmission relationship with a mental health practitioner were more likely to make a follow-up visit and were more likely to be readmitted. Follow-up was also associated with di

The relevance of a staff-oriented approach in consultation psychiatry: a preliminary study.

According to the literature, a patient-staff conflict or intra-staff conflict is often the hidden reason for requesting a psychiatric consultation. This study is specifically directed at determining the percentage of consultations in which such "staff problems" play a clinically relevant role. Indications of staff problems were found in one-third of 313 consultations investigated. These problems occurred significantly more frequently in patients admitted to surgical wards and in patients referred because of psychological disturbances related to their physical disorder, with a diagnosis of "tra

The effects of integrating work-related factors and improving cooperation in musculoskeletal physical therapy practice: protocol for the 'WORK TO BE DONE' cluster randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the primary cause of disability worldwide and a major societal burden. Recent qualitative research found that although a patient's work is considered important, physical therapists take work participation insufficiently into account as a determining factor in the treatment of patients with MSDs. Therefore, the aim of this study is to improve the effectiveness of physical therapy (in primary healthcare) with respect to the work participation of employees with MSDs by increasing the knowledge and skills of generalist physical therapists and by imp

Impact of Family-Based Care on the Outcome of Brain Death and Humanization in the Process of Multiple Organ Donation: Case Report.

In the care of this 29-year-old male patient, a victim of traumatic brain injury with brain death outcome, the multidisciplinary team played a fundamental role in an integrated, ethical, transparent and humanized way. Particularly important was the work of the nursing team, which provided humane and empathetic care and established a bond of trust with family members; the medical team, which managed the case with respect and clarity, guaranteeing the family's right to witness the diagnostic process and understand it at all stages; and psychology, which provided shelter and support for grieving.

Does congruence between therapist and patient in session-by-session bond ratings predict change in symptoms?

OBJECTIVE: The working alliance is a robust predictor of psychotherapy outcomes, and recent theories suggest that congruence between therapist and patient perceptions of the alliance may further enhance outcomes. This study examined whether session-by-session congruence in emotional bond ratings predicted next-session symptom improvement. METHOD: Data were drawn from 2,575 patients (82,641 patient-by-session observations) receiving feedback-informed cognitive-behavioral therapy by 194 trainee therapists in a university outpatient clinic. Patients and therapists rated the emotional bond after
