Smartphone App-Based Music-Facilitated Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Integrating Rhythm-Guided Walking and Singing for Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is a cornerstone for the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), yet global uptake remains low due to geographic and resource barriers. Digital health technologies, specifically smartphone apps, offer a promising platform for delivering accessible home-based PR. In addition, music-assisted interventions not only offer unique physiological and psychological benefits but may also serve as an innovative approach to enhancing patient engagement and improving the effectiveness of rehabilitation in home settings. OBJECTIVE: This study ai

Concealed Identities and Absent Fathers: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of the Lived Experiences of Two Daughters of Catholic Priests in Peru.

The abuse perpetrated by clergy in the Catholic Church has prompted investigations, journalistic reports, and institutional debate. Yet another group remains largely unexamined: children born of priests' secret sexual relationships, who grow up hidden in the shadows. This study explores how two Peruvian women make sense of growing up with a Catholic priest as their father. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), three core themes were identified: (1) longing for paternal presence within conditions of secrecy and distance, (2) living with a concealed identity, and (3) making sense

Fertility responses to tropical cyclones: Causal evidence and mechanisms.

In light of growing concerns over escalating natural disaster risks and persistently low fertility rates, this paper quantifies the causal impacts of tropical cyclones and identifies the pathways through which they influence childbearing decisions among Australians of reproductive age. Using an individual fixed effects model and exogenous variation in cyclone exposure, we find a robust and substantial decline in fertility, occurring only after the most severe category 5 cyclones, with the effect weakening as distance from the cyclone's eye increases. We find no evidence of delayed cyclone effe

Impact of COVID-19 and restricted self-help group attendance on drinking behavior among people with alcohol use disorder: Results of a nationwide cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Concerns regarding symptom severity and the risk of relapse among people seeking recovery from alcohol use disorder (AUD) have been raised since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Owing to preventive measures implemented during the pandemic (social distancing or lockdown), self-help group (SHG) meetings were restricted. However, the impact of deprivation of onsite recovery meetings on drinking behavior and risk among SHG members with AUD remains unclear. We examined the proportion of SHG members who reported drinking and their reasons for drinking during the early stages of the pa

Shaping Training Load, Technical-Tactical Behaviour, and Well-Being in Football: A Systematic Review.

Football performance results from the dynamic interaction between physical, tactical, technical, and psychological dimensions-each of which also influences player well-being, recovery, and readiness. However, integrated monitoring approaches remain scarce, particularly in youth and sub-elite contexts. This systematic review screened 341 records from PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, with 46 studies meeting the inclusion criteria (n = 1763 players; age range: 13.2-28.7 years). Physical external load was reported in 44 studies using GPS-derived metrics such as total distance and high-speed run

Discordance between joint pain and imagery severity in the ankle joint and contributors of lower limb activity limitations in adults with haemophilia: A cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: People with haemophilia (PwH) suffer from knee and ankle joint pain, but the association with structural damage remains underexplored. They report activity limitations but it is unclear which factors contribute to lower limb activity limitations (LL-AL). AIMS: This study aimed (i) to analyse the association between ankle joint pain and structure and (ii) explore the contribution of haemophilia-related, individual and psychological factors to LL-AL in PwH. METHODS: This study included 104 moderate/severe PwH. Ankle pain intensity was assessed with a numeric rating scale and pain

Assessment of Public Stigma, Mental Health Literacy, and Help-Seeking Intentions Based on Different Dimensions of Obsessive-Compulsive Content: A Study of the Spanish Mental Health-Naïve Population.

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive (OC) disorder is a debilitating disorder with a high delay in help-seeking that could be associated with two barriers that may differ between OC content dimensions: public stigma and mental health literacy. OBJECTIVES: We aim to describe and analyze the differences among OC content dimensions in public stigma, social distance desire, mental health literacy, and help-seeking intention in a sample of the mental health-naïve population. METHODS: A total of 487 participants from the Spanish community with no previous knowledge of or experience with OCD were rando

Associations of Small Business Closure and Reduced Urban Mobility with Mental Health Problems in COVID-19 Pandemic: a National Representative Sample Study.

It is suggested that the nationwide social distancing due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has adverse mental health consequences despite its necessity. We investigated the associations of social distancing measures with mental health problems. Using national representative sample of 509,062 adults in the USA, we examined the associations of small business closure and reduced urban mobility with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and major depression disorder (MDD). Multilevel regression models were fitted with individual, household, and state-level covariates, in addition to state and c

Dynamic size-change of peri-hand space through tool-use: spatial extension or shift of the multi-sensory area.

Several studies in humans and non-human primates have shown that tool-use can expand near peripersonal space (Farnè & Làdavas, 2000; Iriki, Tanaka, & Iwamura, 1996). In humans, the extension of the near peripersonal space is revealed by an increase in the severity of cross-modal extinction caused by visual stimulation at the distal edge of a rake after its use as a reaching tool. The crucial question addressed here concerns whether the dynamic re-sizing of the peri-hand space in humans constitutes a real spatial expansion of visual-tactile peri-hand area along the tool axis. Alternatively, it

El Niño-driven flooding and mental health symptomology among adolescents and young adults in Peru.

Intensifying storms and inter-annual El Niño events may increase psychological stress and worsen mental health. This study examines the relationship between flood exposure and long-term mental health symptoms among adolescents and young people in Peru, the world's most affected country by El Niño. We analyzed community and self-reported survey data from the Young Lives Study to contrast mental health in 2016 among youth who lived in communities that experienced or did not experience flooding between 2013 and 2016. We pre-processed data on 1344 individuals in 93 communities, using optimal full

Stronger resting-state neural oscillations associated with wiser advising from the 2nd- but not the 3rd-person perspective.

This is the first electroencephalogram study exploring the personal perspective effect on wise advising. Participants advised hypothetical protagonists in life dilemmas from both the 2nd- and 3rd-person perspective. Their advice for each dilemma was rated by two independent raters on wisdom criteria, i.e., metacognitive humility, metacognitive flexibility, and perspective taking. The results revealed that participants felt a significantly shorter psychological distance from protagonists when advising from the 2nd- (vs. the 3rd-) person perspective, p < 0.001. However, there was no significant …

Coping Styles of Adolescents With Leukemia at a Tertiary Care Cancer Centre in India: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents with cancer face unique psychological, social, and developmental challenges that are distinct from those faced by children and adults. While coping strategies influence psychological outcomes, the evidence is limited to high-income countries. Minimal longitudinal data exist in low- and middle-income contexts, where sociocultural factors may shape coping strategies differently. METHODS: We conducted a longitudinal qualitative study of adolescents newly diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) at a tertiary cancer centre in India. Thirty participants were purpo

The psychophysical impact of COVID-19 lockdown on pediatric patients with rheumatological disease.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 was declared a pandemic on 11 March 2020 and unprecedented containment measures were taken to limit its spreading. These exceptional measures may have an impact on the mental health of the population. OBJECTIVES: We hypothesize that children with the rheumatological chronic disease might be a population at higher risk of psychological distress. DESIGN: This study evaluated the psychological effect of social distancing in pediatric rheumatological patients and its possible correlation with disease relapse. SETTING: Pediatric patients diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic ar
