[Primary cauda equina epidermoid cyst. A case report].

A primary epidermoid cyst of the cauda equina was diagnosed in an eleven-year-old boy. The patient had a previous two months history of lumbar pain with unilateral L 4 radicular pain. The diagnosis of an epidermoid cyst of the cauda equina, suspected by MRI, was confirmed by histology following surgery. Wide tumor resection, as complete as possible, was performed with minimum trauma. Presence of an epidermoid cyst in the filum terminale is a rare finding, few cases have been reported in the literature. However, surgical treatment and favorable post-operative course are similar to that observed

[Dental-radical cysts, a rare aetiology of maxillary sinus opacity].

OBJECTIVE: To specify CT scan roll in diagnosis of radicullar cyst invading maxillary sinus. METHODS: Two cases of 23 and 34-year-old men presented with facial injury and sinusitis was explored by CT scan. RESULTS: CT scan showed in both patients a cystic lesion, developing into the maxillary sinus around a tooth apex and limits by a double dense thin rim. CONCLUSION: CT scan permits diagnosis of radicular cyst invading maxillary sinus, in the event of obscured maxillary sinus, when double dense thin rim corresponding to the repulsed wall of the sinus is looking.

Internal apical resorption and its correlation with the type of apical lesion.

AIM: To determine the presence of various periapical pathologies and their association with the presence and extent of internal apical inflammatory root resorption in human teeth. METHODOLOGY: A total of 75 root apices from extracted teeth with periapical lesions were examined. Semi-serial sections of soft tissue lesions were stained with HE. The lesions were classified as non-cystic or cystic, and according to the degree of abscess severity: 0, 1, 2 or 3. The apices were reduced to 3 mm in length and longitudinally cut so that the internal aspect could be analyzed under scanning electron mic

[Apicoectomy: indications].

Chronic apical periodontitis and apical cyst are chronologically different expressions of a chronic, productive-type inflammatory process. Treatment, however, differs with cases. As X-ray diagnosis is generally impossible, endodontic treatment is the first therapeutic action required. If no remission is seen, surgery is necessary, with curettage in the event of apical integrity, and apicectomy otherwise.

Symptomatic idiopathic noncommunicating intradural arachnoid cyst of the S1 nerve root: a case report.

STUDY DESIGN: A case report of a rare symptomatic, idiopathic, noncommunicating intradural arachnoid cyst (IAC) of the proximal part of the S1 nerve root (NR). OBJECTIVE: To discuss the possible pathophysiology, clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) presentation, intraoperative findings, and follow-up of IAC of the proximal part of the S1 NR. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Rare variety of the Nabors's Type 3 spinal IAC. The etiopathogenesis are uncertain. Surgical NR decompression with extirpation of the cyst is the treatment of choice. METHODS: A 37-year-old woman clinically presented

Gross Total Resection of a Ventral Enterogenous Cyst of the Thoracic Spinal Cord: Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Intraspinal enterogenous cysts, also referred to as neuroenteric cysts, represent a rare congenital disorder. As reported, these cysts are predominantly located in the cervicothoracic region, while being infrequently found in the lumbosacral region. Most patients manifest symptoms such as progressive local pain, signs of myelopathy, or radicular symptoms. Complete surgical resection of this disease is challenging. In the event of cyst fluid leakage during surgery, postoperative aseptic inflammation is likely to occur. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: We report a case in which

Comparative Metabolomics Reveals the Microenvironment of Common T-Helper Cells and Differential Immune Cells Linked to Unique Periapical Lesions.

Periapical abscesses, radicular cysts, and periapical granulomas are the most frequently identified pathological lesions in the alveolar bone. While little is known about the initiation and progression of these conditions, the metabolic environment and the related immunological behaviors were examined for the first time to model the development of each pathological condition. Metabolites were extracted from each lesion and profiled using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in comparison with healthy pulp tissue. The metabolites were clustered and linked to their related immune cell fractions.…

The Mystifying Role of Mast Cells in the Pathogenesis of Periapical Pathologies - A Systematic Review.

INTRODUCTION: Oral periapical lesions present a significant global health burden, with their pathogenesis shrouded in complexity due to multifaceted mechanisms. Despite extensive research, the precise role of mast cells in their pathogenesis remains elusive. The present systematic review aimed to elucidate the mechanism of mast cells in the immunopathology of periapical lesions. METHODS: An extensive literature search conducted across databases (MEDLINE via PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE and gray literature) of original research articles that examined the role of mast cells in p

Participation of osteoclastogenic factors in immunopathogenesis of human chronic periapical lesions.

BACKGROUND: Chronic periapical lesions (CPLs) are common lesions of the oral cavity and are the result of caries, tooth fracture, iatrogenic causes, or factors causing contamination and pulp necrosis. Inflammatory cells participate in the expansion of CPLs by releasing factors that stimulate or inhibit osteolytic activity. The objective of this study was to investigate the participation of RANKL, TNF-α, cathepsin K, IL-33, and OPG in the development of radicular cysts (RCs) and periapical granulomas (PGs). METHODS: Paraffin-embedded sections of 30 RCs and 22 PGs were submitted to immunohistoc…

[Granuloma or cyst? The unknown chronic periapical lesion].

The periapical lesions, granuloma and cyst, are being dealt with in modern scientific articles. The ethiology, whether it be infectious, traumatic, physical or chemical, is reviewed and mention is made of the fact that pulpal necrosis or gangrene is a prerequisite for these chronic proliferous lesions. According to epidemiological studies, the granuloma is observed more often than the cyst and the cyst more often in the upper jaw bone. Furthermore, certain teeth show a particular susceptibility to one or the other of these lesions. An x-ray is not sufficient to assure the appropriate clinical
