Visual, refractive, and keratometric results of epikeratophakia in children. A two-year follow-up.

Fifty-two patients under the age of 16 years (68 eyes) received epikeratophakia grafts for the correction of aphakia. In 27 eyes, epikeratophakia was a primary procedure combined with lensectomy. Fifteen children underwent bilateral surgery. Overall, the success rate was 91%, and with repeated surgery it was 94%. The average change in refractive error was 15.9 diopters (D) and the average spectacle overcorrection was +0.3 D. Sixty-one percent (35/57) of the eyes were within 1 D of emmetropia and 97% (55/57) were within 3 D of emmetropia. Overall, the refraction was stable in the follow-up betw

[Methods of the analysis of images in the diagnosis of diseases of the anterior eye segment].

Methods of mathematical computerized analysis of images obtained through the microscopy of the eye by the slit lamp were used in examining patients with different pathologies of the eye anterior segment. Densitometric and planimetric analysis of images of the cornea, lens as well as of the posterior and anterior capsules of the lens was made for patients with aphakia and artiphakia. The optic corneal density (which depends on a type and degree of refraction and an administered medication therapy) was found to change after excimerlaser procedures. The corneal transparency, which also depends on

Results of the AcrySof Toric intraocular lenses implantation.

BACKGROUND: The expectations of post-removal cataract surgery patients are extremely high, and best vision acuity is expected. The best refractive results are influenced by two factors - cataract surgical removal and the corneal astigmatism correction. Currently, the two most often applied corneal astigmatism removal methods are laser surgery and toric intraocular lens implantation, with the latter method being both more stable and more reversible. This study aimed to estimate the surgical astigmatism correction efficiency after AcrySof Toric intraocular lens implantation in patients with corn

Pterygium-induced corneal refractive changes.

To study the effect of pterygium on corneal topography, a retrospective analysis of 151 eyes with primary pterygia was done. All cases underwent videokeratography preoperatively and one month postoperatively. Statistical analysis of average corneal power (ACP), corneal astigmatism, surface regularity index (SRI) and surface asymmetry index (SAI) was done before and one month after surgery. Topographic indices were compared statistically for various grades of pterygia. Increase in the grade of pterygia had a significant effect on topographic indices. Corneal astigmatism reduced from 4.40+/-3.64

Diagnostic use of a rigid contact lens to show corneal topography abnormalities after laser refractive surgery.

We describe 2 cases in which evaluation of rigid contact lens fluorescein patterns were used to delineate and characterize topography irregularities. Contact lens analysis confirmed and localized topography findings of an elevated central island in 1 patient and a semicircular pattern in the other patient. To determine a therapeutic strategy to correct topography irregularities after laser refractive surgery, it is critical to document a corneal elevation and delineate its location.
