In the clinical neuroscience literature, between-subjects differences in neural activity are presumed to reflect reliable measures-even though the psychometric properties of neural measures are almost never reported. The current article focuses on the critical importance of assessing and reporting internal consistency reliability-the homogeneity of "items" that comprise a neural "score." We demonstrate how variability in the internal consistency of neural measures limits between-subjects (i.e., individual differences) effects. To this end, we utilize error-related brain activity (i.e., the err

INTRODUCTION: The impact of periodontal disease on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) has often been investigated from a quantitative research perspective, which is based on clinical findings and an OHRQoL questionnaire. Very few studies have examined the issue from the view of qualitative research. To our knowledge, there have been no previous qualitative studies focusing the effect of periodontal disease on OHRQoL in Indonesian older people.
OBJECTIVES: To explore and understand the impact of periodontal disease on the OHRQoL of older people as a subjective reflection in relation

Previous reviewers have concluded that opioids cause dose-related impairment in opioid-naive volunteers on psychomotor skills related to driving. Data relating to opioid-dependent/tolerant patients have not yet been reviewed. To determine what evidence, if any, exists for or against opioid-related driving skill impairment in opioid-dependent/tolerant patients, we performed a structured evidence-based review of all available studies addressing the issue of whether opioid-dependent/tolerant patients are impaired in driving-related skills. A computer and manual literature search for studies relat

Unethical behaviours have a wide-ranging negative influence in the workplace, including adverse effects on individuals who witness or are subjected to such acts. While research has explored the effects of various misbehaviours on employee well-being, this study draws from ethical impact theory and utilizes data from a panel sample of business professionals to examine the relationship between unethical work polyvictimisation, encompassing varied misbehaviours, and aggregated individual well-being and work stress. Most of the hypotheses were supported, with results indicating that unethical work

Previous research has reported a prevalence of running related injuries in 25.9% to 72% of all runners. A greater hip internal rotation and adduction during the stance phase in running has been associated with many running related injuries, such as patellofemoral pain. Researchers in the USA designed a treatment device 'the Powers™ strap' to facilitate an external rotation of the femur and to thereby control abnormal hip and knee motion during leisure and sport activities. However, to date no literature exists to demonstrate whether the Powers™ strap is able to reduce hip internal rotation dur

A conceptualization of claustrophobia [Rachman, S., & Taylor, S. (1993). Analyses of claustrophobia. Journal of Anxiety Disorders, 7, 281-291] was evaluated in the context of magnetic resonance imaging. One hundred eleven students responded to questionnaires that quantified fear of suffocation, fear of restriction, and sensitivity to anxiety symptoms. Sixty-four of them were then exposed to a mock magnetic resonance imaging assessment; maximum subjective fear during the mock assessment was self-reported, behavioral reactions to the mock assessment were characterized, and heart rates before and

The beneficial impact of physical activity on preventing and treating mental disorders has captured growing (research) interest. This article aims to provide a concise overview of essential evidence regarding the effectiveness and underlying mechanisms of physical activity for individuals with mental disorders clustered as "stress-related" conditions. Empirical findings (e.g., longitudinalprospective studies, interventional randomized-controlled-trials, reviews, meta-analyses) regarding the effects of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of stress-related mental disorders are summ

Biofilm-associated implant-related bone and joint infections are clinically important due to the extensive morbidity, cost of care and socioeconomic burden that they cause. Research in the field of biofilms has expanded in the past two decades, however, there is still an immense knowledge gap related to many clinical challenges of these biofilm-associated infections. This subject was assigned to the Biofilm Workgroup during the second International Consensus Meeting on Musculoskeletal Infection held in Philadelphia USA (ICM 2018) (https://icmphilly.com). The main objective of the Biofilm Workg

Past research has suggested that negative affect may be a causal factor for eating disordered behaviors. More specifically, research has shown that anger appears to be one aspect of negative affect that is particularly relevant in bulimic patients. Previous studies have also shown that the relationship between negative affect and eating disordered behaviors may partially depend upon personality variables such as impulsivity. The present study examined whether the relationship between anger and eating disordered behaviors is moderated by impulsivity. Subjects completed an ecological momentary a

BACKGROUND: Communication is critical to sexuality and sexual health. It is therefore reasonable to assume that acquired communication impairments would impact sexuality, but research is sparse. The research that does discuss these impacts can be difficult to find, as studies are spread across a wide variety of literature bases, and sexual topics are often combined with other concerns. Coupled with clinicians' discomfort in addressing sexual issues, this leads to a lack of clinical support for patients' sexual concerns.
AIMS: This scoping review aimed to map and summarize the existing literat

BACKGROUND: Traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM) encompasses a wide range of healthcare practices and is of growing global interest. Preprints, scientific manuscripts posted prior to formal peer review, offer opportunities to address challenges in TCIM research, including limited funding, publication delays, and concerns about methodological quality. By increasing the visibility and speed of research dissemination, preprints may help strengthen the TCIM evidence base. This bibliometric analysis examined the characteristics of TCIM-related preprints posted on servers with

BACKGROUND: Aortic aneurysm is a chronic arterial disease that can lead to aortic rupture, causing severe complications and life-threatening risks for patients, and it is one of the common causes of death among the elderly. Increasing evidence suggests that inflammation plays an important role in the progression of aortic aneurysm. However, there is a lack of literature-based quantitative analysis in this field.
METHODS: Up to March 30, 2023, we collected 3,993 articles related to aortic aneurysm and inflammation from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database for bibliometric analys

BACKGROUND: "Proximal humerus fractures [PHFs]" are common orthopedic injuries, often requiring surgical intervention for optimal outcomes. However, the choice of surgical approach remains controversial, with varying outcomes reported in the literature.
METHODS: A retrospective research was overseen among subjects who had surgery for PHFs. Three surgical approaches were compared: "Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF)", "Hemiarthroplasty [HA]", and "Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty [RSA]". Demographic data, fracture characteristics, surgical details, and postoperative outcomes were analyzed.
