Impulsivity as key bridge symptoms in cross-sectional and longitudinal networks of ADHD and ODD.

BACKGROUND: Impulsivity is viewed as key to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and disruptive behavior disorders (DBD). Yet, to date, no work has provided an item-level analysis in longitudinal samples across the critical developmental period from childhood into adolescence, despite prior work suggesting items exhibit differential relevance with respect to various types of impairment. The current study conducted a novel longitudinal network analysis of ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) symptoms between childhood and adolescence, with the important applied prediction of

Sexual Partner Typologies Among Latino Men Living in Miami, Florida: A Multilevel Latent Class Analysis.

In the USA, Latino men are disproportionately affected by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Characterizing the social context in which sexual behaviors occur, including substance use prior to sex and condomless sex, can inform prevention strategies. This paper presents an innovative analytic approach that blends multilevel latent class analysis (MLCA) with egocentric sexual network data to explore patterns of dyadic and personal characteristics of Latino men's sexual partners. From February 2022 to August 2023, social network data were collected fro

Understanding the contexts and dynamics of poppers use among gender and sexually diverse people (GSDP) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

INTRODUCTION: Growing evidence indicates emerging use of alkyl nitrites (poppers) to augment sexual performance, especially among gender and sexually diverse people (GSDP). However, evidence remains limited where dual stigma and criminalisation of drug use and homosexuality impede harm reduction. This article explored how GSDP in urban Bangladesh understood and experienced poppers use within social, sexual and emotional lives. METHODS: This qualitative study entailed 17 in-depth interviews with GSDP in urban Dhaka, Bangladesh, recruited through snowball sampling. Reflexive thematic analysis w

Functional connectivity between the visual and salience networks and autistic social features at school-age.

BACKGROUND: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is highly heritable and phenotypically variable. Neuroimaging markers reflecting variation in behavior will provide insights into circuitry subserving core features. We examined functional correlates of ASD symptomology at school-age, while accounting for associated behavioral and cognitive domains, in a longitudinal sample followed from infancy and enriched for those with a genetic liability for ASD. METHODS: Resting state functional connectivity MRIs (fcMRI) and behavioral data were analyzed from 97 school-age children (8.1-12.0 years, 55 males, 15

Impact of treatment beliefs and social network encouragement on initiation of care by VA service users with PTSD.

OBJECTIVES: Despite the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) expansion of mental health services to treat VA service users with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), many with PTSD do not engage in treatment. Numerous studies suggest that beliefs about treatment and social network factors, such as encouragement to seek treatment by others, affect engagement; however, prospective studies examining these factors are largely absent in this population. This study sought to understand social and attitudinal factors influencing treatment initiation, which may help to inform outreach interventio

Network analyses of discrete emotions and social connectedness indicators in anxiety and depressive disorders.

Low positive affect (PA) and high negative affect (NA) are common features of depressive and anxiety disorders that have been linked to social disconnection. Prior research, however, has examined PA, NA, and social connectedness as global dimensions rather than as systems of interacting discrete emotions and connectedness indicators. This study used network analysis to: (a) examine interrelationships among discrete emotions to identify potentially influential emotions within and across positive and negative emotion communities, and (b) determine which emotions are most strongly linked to indic

Associative Network Method.

BACKGROUND: The associative network method is a technique for studying social representations of a phenomenon. Although it is little known and used, it can be widely used in nursing research, particularly to understand the representations of a population on a disease or a professional practice. OBJECTIVES: This article aims to describe the associative network method, proposed by De Rosa in 1995, through a concrete example. METHODS: The associative network is a technique that allows us to identify the content, structure, and polarity of social representations of a phenomenon. It was used with

Pattern of structural brain changes in social anxiety disorder after cognitive behavioral group therapy: a longitudinal multimodal MRI study.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is characterized by fears of social and performance situations. Cognitive behavioral group therapy (CBGT) has in general positive effects on symptoms, distress and avoidance in SAD. Prior studies found increased cortical volumes and decreased fractional anisotropy (FA) in SAD compared with healthy controls (HCs). Thirty-three participants diagnosed with SAD attended in a 10-week CBGT and were scanned before and after therapy. We applied three neuroimaging methods-surface-based morphometry, diffusion tensor imaging and network-based statistics-each with specific lo

Constructing HIV/AIDS in Chinese media (2010-2024): A mixed-methods study.

In China, where HIV/AIDS remains one of the leading causes of infectious disease-related mortality, traditional media significantly shape public perceptions amid persistent prevention challenges. This study examines a large-scale corpus of news articles published between 2010 and 2024 to understand the evolving media discourse surrounding HIV/AIDS. Employing Analysis of Topic Model Networks (ANTMN) and collocation analysis, we extract the thematic networks, terminology for people living with HIV (PLHIV), and HIV/AIDS metaphors. Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) and network backbone method

Neural Basis of Psychological Growth following Adverse Experiences: A Resting-State Functional MRI Study.

Over the past decade, research on the aftereffects of stressful or traumatic events has emphasized the negative outcomes from these experiences. However, the positive outcomes deriving from adversity are increasingly being examined, and such positive changes are described as posttraumatic growth (PTG). To investigate the relationship between basal whole-brain functional connectivity and PTG, we employed resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging and analyzed the neural networks using independent component analysis in a sample of 33 healthy controls. Correlations were calculated betwee

Exploring the status of online social support for older adults with cancer: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: The estimated number of new cases among older adults with cancer has been increasing. Considering the decrease in social networks as adults age, their need for social support is often unmet. Notably, an increasing number of older adults with cancer have access to social support through online technologies, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, which heightened the need for online social support. Little is known, however, about the extent to which online social support for older people with cancer has developed. This scoping review aims to explore the developments in online soci

Exploring mutual aid-based community engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic: a case study of community group buying in China.

BACKGROUND: Community mutual aid is a form of community engagement involving multiple stakeholders working together to provide both material and emotional support. During the COVID-19 pandemic in China, community group buying (CGB) exhibited distinct features of community mutual aid, reflected in its flexible product supply and spontaneous neighborhood support. However, the mechanisms driving the emergence of such mutual aid practices remain insufficiently explored. METHODS: This study employed a qualitative research design combining ethnographic observation and interpretive case analysis to
