A biological method was used to synthesize stable silver nanoparticles that were tested as mosquito larvicides against Aedes aegypti, Anopheles stephensi, and Culex quinquefasciatus. Four root canal sealers (AH-26, Roth 811, CRCS, and Sealapex) were tested for tissue biocompatibility in rat connective tissue. Supercontinuum radiation sources are attractive for spectroscopic applications owing to their broad wavelength coverage, which enables spectral signatures of multiple species to be detected simultaneously. Here we report the first use of a supercontinuum radiation source for broadband trace gas detection using a cavity enhanced absorption technique. Dithiocarbamate (DTC) derivatives of N-vinylpyrrolidone-N-vinylamine (VP-VA) copolymers were synthesized via reaction between the copolymers and carbon disulfide in alkaline medium; molecular masses of the products were 12 and 29 kDa; the VP:VDTC ratios were 94:6 and 83:17 mol.%. The monomeric hemoglobin from the mollusc Lucina pectinata (HbI) represents an interesting model system for the study of heme-related circular dichroic (CD) bands in view of the highly asymmetric distribution of aromatic residues around the heme pocket revealed by the X-ray crystal structure.
