RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: A potential method of nonsurgical tubal sterilization was tested in rabbits.
METHODS: Metal coils were designed which could be placed into the uterotubal junction using transvaginal fluoroscopic fallopian tube catheterization. These metal coils were successfully placed unilaterally in the uterotubal junction of 32 rabbits. The contralateral fallopian tube and uterus were used as a control. The rabbits were bred, and the presence of pregnancies was confirmed by palpation.

The results of a new out-patient approach to fistula in ano are presented. The technique involved passing a multi-strand stainless steel wire through the fistulous tract and has been used in 56 patients with low fistulae as well as high horseshoe anal fistulae. Recurrence was seen in only 2 patients and none of the patients experienced temporary or permanent incontinence of flatus or faeces.

A PTFE cannula was introduced into the rabbit abdomen through the right flank. A purse string suture was used to fix a small plastic flange within the caecum. A larger flange was sutured under the skin to fix the cannula. Caecal contents could be collected from the chronic fistula via a threaded stainless steel cap on the cannula. Animals tolerated the fistulation well and sepsis was never seen.

A report on the stapedectomy procedure using the Robinson stainless steel stapes prosthesis over a 15-year period is presented in a study of 3,200 cases. Short-term results, long-term results, failures, and delayed complications are statistically analyzed. This implant is presently the most frequently used prefabricated stapes prosthesis in the country, and each year more otologic surgeons are adopting this surgical technique.
