The results of magnetic resonance imaging in 10 patients with dissection of the thoracic aorta are presented. In 8 patients, the intimal flap was clearly contrasted from flowing blood in both lumina. In 2 patients the lack of phase shift of the intraluminal signal indicated complete thrombosis of the false lumen. We retrospectively analyzed CT scans of 21 cavernous sinus lesions in an attempt to discover CT findings helpful to the differential diagnosis. With the integration of various CT observations it was possible to categorize the lesions into inflammatory, vascular, benign neoplastic and malignant metastatic lesions with few exceptions. Choanal atresia is a rare malformation of the nose. If it occurs bilaterally, it may cause life-threatening complications shortly after birth. The disease is mainly diagnosed clinically. Only few cases have been presented and documented by means of radiologic procedures. In particular, CT presentation of this malformation has to our knowledge not been published to date.

The indications and CT features of Crohn's disease were reevaluated, based on 48 examinations in 28 patients. Although CT is indicated mostly in the complications of Crohn's disease, it played a major role in the primary diagnosis of Crohn's disease in 8 patients. 5 unsuspected patients had CT for other abdominal indications and 3 had the examinations as part of an elective diagnostic work-up. One hundred and thirty-three patients with lymph node enlargement from various causes were examined by MR tomography, using 0.5 and 1.5 Tesla. Amongst these, there were 27 patients with chronically enlarged lymph nodes and histologically confirmed sarcoidosis; these showed characteristic T1 intervals. We examined 22 intramedullary, 17 intradural extramedullary and 20 extradural lesions, with direct involvement of the spinal cord by magnetic resonance tomography, using surface coils and 5 mm., or narrower continuous sections. Spinecho pulse sequences are suitable for multi-slice examinations. T.1-weighted examinations are suitable for demonstrating the syrinx in syringomyelia, in all other circumstances T1 and T2 sequences are essential. Gd-DTPA is unnecessary. The results of these recommendations are illustrated.
