Development and validation of the housing instability scale.

Despite increasing attention to the importance of examining factors that impact housing instability and homelessness, the field lacks a validated scale of housing instability. The current study examined the reliability and validity of a seven-item scale that measures housing instability. Data were taken from a larger study which implemented the Domestic Violence Housing First model across five domestic violence agencies in the Pacific Northwest. A total of 406 participants were interviewed every six months over a period of two years. A Spanish version of the scale was administered to Spanish-s

Monocular Near-Infrared Optical Tracking with Retroreflective Fiducial Markers for High-Accuracy Image-Guided Surgery.

Image-guided surgical procedures demand tracking systems that combine high accuracy, low latency, and minimal footprint to ensure safe and precise navigation in the operating room. To address these requirements, we developed a monocular optical tracking system based on a single near-infrared camera with directional illumination and compact retroreflective markers designed for short-range measurement. Small dodecahedral markers carrying fiducial patterns on each face were fabricated to enable robust detection in confined and variably illuminated surgical environments. Their non-metallic constru

Swellable microneedle-coupled light-addressable photoelectrochemical sensor for in-situ tracking of multiple pesticides pollution in vivo.

In vivo monitoring of multiple pesticide contamination is of great significance for evaluating the health risks of different pesticides, agricultural production safety, and ecological and environmental assessment. Here, we report a hydrogel microneedle array coupled light-addressable photoelectrochemical sensor for tracking multiple pesticide uptake and elimination in living animals and plants, holding three prominent merits: i) enables in-situ detection of in vivo pesticides, avoiding cumbersome and complex sample transportation and handling processes; ii) allows repeated in vivo sampling of

Frameless stereotaxy and anterior cervical surgery.

OBJECTIVE: The role of a frameless image guidance system for anterior cervical surgery was evaluated in 40 patients with cervical spondylosis. An assessment was made of the challenges posed in achieving accurate three-dimensional image registration in the absence of multiple fixed anatomical landmarks, and a solution to this problem is outlined using a novel registration tracking device. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients underwent preoperative CT scanning of the surgical field of interest, and the image data was reconstructed on a StealthStation (Sofamor Danek, Memphis, Tennessee, USA). An imag

Fast label-free live imaging with FlowVision reveals key principles of cancer cell arrest on endothelial monolayers.

The rapid, transient, and unpredictable nature of interactions between circulating cells and the endothelium challenges the investigation of these events under flow conditions. Here, we developed an imaging and image-analysis framework called FlowVision, which integrates fast, bright-field live-cell imaging with deep-learning-based image analysis to quantitatively track cell landing and arrest on an endothelial monolayer under physiological flow conditions. Using FlowVision, we find that pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells exhibit variable adhesion strength and flow sensitivity. Rema

γ-Glutamyltransferase-Activatable Fluoro-Photoacoustic Reporter for Highly Sensitive Diagnosis of Acute Liver Injury and Tumor.

γ-Glutamyltransferase (GGT) has been recognized as an important clinical biomarker that is closely related to many diseases. Visualizing the GGT fluctuation facilitates early disease-related diagnosis and therapy. Herein, an activated probe (NIR-GGT) for the imaging of GGT activity was prepared. The probe consists of a stable NIR fluorophore with the tunable amino group decorated with the γ-glutamate group as a GGT-sensing unit linked by a self-elimination group. NIR-GGT can sensitively recognize GGT and cause a strong turn-on fluorescent and photoacoustic signal. The up-regulation of the GGT

A multimodal tiered magnetic polarity inversion features dataset for space weather forecasting.

This article presents a publicly available, multimodal, tiered magnetic polarity inversion lines (MPILs) dataset extracted from the Solar Dynamics Observatory's (SDO) Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) Active Region Patches (SDO/HMI HARP) between May 2010 and April 2025. The dataset comprises four distinct tiers, each generated by running our detection methodology with four different magnetic field strength thresholds to capture nuanced variations in MPIL features at multiple levels of detail. In total, we provide 6,695 HARP series mapped using the Lambert Cylindrical Equal Area (CEA) proj

Examining attentional avoidance in post-traumatic stress disorder: an exploratory 'Face in the Crowd' paradigm using eye-tracking.

Background: Maladaptive patterns of attention to emotional stimuli are a clinical feature of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Using eye-tracking-based methodology, research points out the presence of sustained attention to threatening stimuli in individuals with PTSD. However, most eye-tracking studies in this field used free-viewing tasks on negative stimuli. Methods: PTSD patients (n = 38), trauma-exposed healthy controls (TEHC; n = 30), and non-trauma-exposed healthy controls (HC; n = 33) performed a Face in the Crowd (FiC) task. The FiC task was chosen to explore specific responses to

Radiolucent 4D Ultrasound Imaging: System Design and Application to Radiotherapy Guidance.

Four-dimensional (4D) ultrasound (US) is an attractive modality for image guidance due to its real-time, non-ionizing, volumetric imaging capability with high soft tissue contrast. However, existing 4D US imaging systems contain large volumes of metal which interfere with diagnostic and therapeutic ionizing radiation in procedures such as CT imaging and radiation therapy. This study aimed to design and characterize a novel 4D Radiolucent Remotely-Actuated UltraSound Scanning (RRUSS) device that overcomes this limitation. In a phantom, we evaluated the imaging performance of the RRUSS device in

Mapping of blood flow and slow speckle tissue dynamics using laser speckle contrast imaging.

Laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) is a wide-field optical technique commonly used to monitor cerebral blood flow (CBF). Recently, we have discovered that besides the fast-decorrelating signals from blood flow, LSCI can also detect slow-decorrelating signals associated with cellular activity. The ability to image these signals has significant implications for various research areas such as ischemic stroke, as it enables longitudinal monitoring of both vascular and cellular dynamics, offering new biomarkers for tissue viability, injury progression, and therapeutic response. Here, we demonstr

Sprint performance under heat stress: A review.

Training and competition in major track-and-field events, and for many team or racquet sports, often require the completion of maximal sprints in hot (>30 °C) ambient conditions. Enhanced short-term (<30 s) power output or single-sprint performance, resulting from transient heat exposure (muscle temperature rise), can be attributed to improved muscle contractility. Under heat stress, elevations in skin/core temperatures are associated with increased cardiovascular and metabolic loads in addition to decreasing voluntary muscle activation; there is also compelling evidence to suggest that large

Tracking living decapod larvae: mass staining of eggs with neutral red prior to hatching.

Mass staining of decapod females carrying eggs, with subsequent identification of hatched larvae in the environment, is a research tool with great potential for field ecologists wishing to track the movements of larvae. For this to be achieved, however, numerous requirements must be met. These include adequate dye solubility, short staining time, dye penetration through different tissues, dye retention within the organism, absence of toxic and behavioral effects, low visibility to predators of stained larvae, no loss of staining owing to preservatives and low cost. The dye, neutral red, appear

A lab-on-a-silicon-chip platform for all-electrical antibiotic susceptibility tests with a sample-to-results time within 20 minutes.

Rapid antibiotic susceptibility tests (ASTs) are essential for quick selection of effective drugs to treat infections at an early stage. However, the most widely used phenotypic ASTs in clinical practice often require 24 to 48 hours of pre-culture enrichment and 4 to 20 hours of testing. They are too slow to guide therapy, even with the most rapid protocol. Here, we report a lab-on-a-silicon chip (LOSC) system, which integrates arrays of silicon nanowire field-effect transistor (SiNWFET) sensors with high-throughput cell-collection microfluidics for rapid ASTs. The microfluidics concentrate ba

DSHARP: Deep Incompressible Motion Estimation With Sinusoidal-Transformed Harmonic Phase for Tagged MRI.

Tagged magnetic resonance imaging (tMRI) is a valuable tool for visualizing and quantifying tissue deformation in vivo. Its use is often hampered, however, by tag fading, long computation times, and the challenge of ensuring diffeomorphic, incompressible motion fields. In this paper, we describe a novel integration of the harmonic phase (HARP) approach to tMRI analysis with an unsupervised deep learning-based registration framework to estimate 2D and 3D motion fields that are diffeomorphic and nearly incompressible. The resulting method, called deep sinusoidally transformed HARP, or DSHARP, en

Experimental Quantification of the Electro-Osmotic Flow Field in an Irregular Porous Medium and Its Consequences for Dewatering.

The development of dewatering methods driven by electric fields offers significant potential to reduce the energy demand for these processes. Electro-osmotic dewatering relies on the application of an electric field across a porous matrix possessing a surface charge, inducing liquid transport through electrokinetic mechanisms. While the feasibility and energy efficiency of electro-osmotic dewatering have been demonstrated, a fundamental understanding of how the irregular, porous microstructure affects the uniformity of dewatering is lacking. In this work, we investigate electro-osmotic flow in
