BACKGROUND: Previous research suggests that comorbid personality disorder may be associated with a less favourable treatment outcome for individuals with depression and anxiety disorder. However, little is known about whether personality difficulties are associated with treatment outcomes within Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services-the largest platform for treating depression and anxiety in England, UK. Secondary aims were to investigate i) whether individual personality difficulties are associated with treatment outcome and ii) whether findings are moderated by treatmen

Section III of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition proposes an alternative diagnostic model for personality disorders based on the identification of pathological personality facets. Despite the existing evidence for the relationship between personality disorders and impulsivity in patients with substance use disorders, no study has yet been conducted within this framework. Thus, using a sample of 110 patients with substance use disorders, the present work aims to (a) analyze the relationship between the different personality facets and domains evaluated by

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Despite significant negative outcomes, the co-occurrence of personality disorders (PDs) and substance use disorders (SUDs) continues to be underrecognized, and the mechanisms contributing to this co-occurrence remain unclear. This review summarizes recent work on PD-SUD co-occurrence, with a focus on borderline and antisocial PDs, general substance use patterns among those with PDs, and the association of personality traits with SUDs.
RECENT FINDINGS: The prevalence of co-occurring PD-SUD is generally high, with estimates ranging depending on the type of PD and SUD, the pop

Within the context of a prospective survey project among 20,000 volunteers working for "Electricité de France--Gaz de France" Company (GAZEL cohort), we performed a feasibility study using four self-assessment questionnaires: the Jenkins Activity Survey (measuring type A behaviour pattern), the Buss and Durkee Hostility Inventory, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies--Depression Scale and a personality questionnaire developed by Grossarth-Maticek and Eysenck (GME). Questionnaires were sent twice by mail, at an interval of three months, to a random sample of 408 males: 71% returned the filled f

OBJECTIVES: Several lines of evidence suggest that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays an important role in weight regulation and eating behaviors as well as in the activity-dependent neuroplasticity underlying learning and memory behaviors involving the hippocampus. In anorexia nervosa (AN) patients, abnormal serum BDNF concentrations, cognitive impairments and specific personality traits have been traditionally observed. This study explores the levels of four serum neurotrophins [BDNF, neurotrophin 3 (NTF3), neurotrophin 4 (NTF4) and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GD

BACKGROUND: Patients with difficult personalities or personality disorders are a special challenge for primary care physicians. Their style of interpersonal interaction is often difficult. As the ICD-11 classification comes into use, a new systematic approach to diagnosis is being introduced that focuses on the patient's functional impairments in everyday life. We describe the implications for the diagnosis and treatment of patients of this type.
METHODS: This review is based on pertinent publications retrieved by a selective search, with particular attention to primary care and to somatic mo

It is common knowledge that patients with hysteric neurosis demonstrate selective suggestibility in respect of different methods of suggestion, namely from high to extremely low. To specify the nature of such selectivity, a study was made of the dependence of hysteric neurosis patients' suggestibility on their personality and typological traits and the clinical manifestations of neurosis. It has been shown that suggestibility of patients suffering from hysteric neurosis depends on the premorbid (hysteroid, excitable and inhibitory) types of the patients' personality and the clinical picture of

Background/Objectives: Some haematologists share the perception that patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) behave and manifest emotional expressions in a characteristic way. Previous research suggested a unique personality profile in HL patients compared to the general population. This study aimed to analyse and compare the personality traits of HL and NHL patients to identify potential differences. Methods: In this cross-sectional, descriptive, multicentre and replicative study, we included patients with HL and NHL from the Spanish Group of Lymphoma (GELTAMO). Personality traits and other psy

Startup companies solve many of today's most challenging problems, such as the decarbonisation of the economy or the development of novel life-saving vaccines. Startups are a vital source of innovation, yet the most innovative are also the least likely to survive. The probability of success of startups has been shown to relate to several firm-level factors such as industry, location and the economy of the day. Still, attention has increasingly considered internal factors relating to the firm's founding team, including their previous experiences and failures, their centrality in a global networ

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial risk factors cluster together, but generally a single factor approach has been adopted when studying their influence on health outcomes in cardiac patients. We examined the impact of clustering (i.e. type D personality and anxiety) on depressive symptoms 12 months post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
DESIGN: Prospective study.
METHODS: Consecutive patients (n=416), treated with PCI with drug-eluting stents, completed the type D Scale and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale anxiety subscale at baseline, and the depression subscale at 12 months.
