Preoperative MRI Predictors for Post-Prostatectomy Urinary Incontinence.

Background: We investigated the predictive role of prostatic morphology on preoperative multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging for post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence. Methods: Patients who underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy between February 2018 and October 2021 and who were not previously incontinent, did not undergo radiotherapy, hormone therapy, or transurethral resection of the prostate, and who had a follow-up longer than 12 months were selected. For each patient, a radiology physician evaluated the preoperative magnetic resonance imaging, measuring prostatic and memb…

Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence: Does Race Matter?

IMPORTANCE: The importance of this study was to examine treatment patterns and surgical complications for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to describe the treatment of SUI and associated complications in a racially and ethnically diverse population. STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients with a new diagnosis of SUI. We identified patients who received treatment with a pessary, pelvic floor physical therapy, or surgery. Surgical complications were abstracted. Logistic regression was used to examine the association between race/e…

IMPORTANCE: Women who identify as Black or African American are underrepresented in research about pelvic floor disorders. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to describe the prevalence of and factors associated with urinary incontinence (UI) and UI care-seeking among adult women in a Wisconsin household survey. STUDY DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional analysis of data collected by the Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW). Using community engagement, individuals who identified as Black or African American were purposively oversampled in the 2018-2019 wave. Descriptive analyses …

Incidence of stress urinary incontinence after laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the occurrence of stress urinary incontinence after pelvic organ prolapse surgery using the laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy method. This is a retrospective multicenter study. METHODS: The study included 131 patients who underwent laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy and underwent at least a one-year follow-up in the form of a clinical examination. RESULTS: The group included patients with an average age of 63.4 years (38-80 years), BMI 26.6 kg/m2 (19.4-36 kg/m2), and parity 2 (0-4). Before surgery, 30 (22.9%) patients showed stress incontinence, and after s…

Microenergy shockwave therapies for female stress urinary incontinence.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is one of the pelvic floor disorders affecting tens of million of women worldwide. In general, non-surgical options have relatively limited efficacy. The most effective treatment is mid-urethral sling surgery which carries substantial risks of perioperative and postoperative complications. Regenerative therapy with the injection of several types of stem cells and stem cell products is promising but further investigation is needed before clinical implementation can be considered. In recent years, the application of microenergy therapy as a non-invasive treatmen…
