BACKGROUND: Tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis syndrome (TINU syndrome) is a diagnosis of exclusion based on the presence of uveitis and acute tubulointerstitial nephritis in the absence of other disease entities known to cause both of these disorders. The proximal tubule is frequently affected by this syndrome, resulting in a wide range of presentations that vary from proteinuria to full picture of Fanconi syndrome. AIM: To report 2 cases of idiopathic anterior uveitis with coexistent myasthenia gravis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective case reports.
RESULTS: A 60-year-old male and a 40-year-old male presented with chronic nongranulomatous anterior uveitis of unknown etiology. The latter had a history of hypothyroidism. During follow-up examinations, they developed bilateral ptosis. Neuromuscular conduction studies revealed systemic myasthenia in the former and ocular myasthenia in the later. Cataract surgery in patients with uveitis is not as simple as any senile cataract surgery. METHODS: Observational case report.
RESULTS: A 38-year-old woman developed meningococcal septicemia caused by Neisseria meningitidis type B. During her admission, she had pain in her left eye, inflammatory cells, and a fibrinous exudate in the anterior chamber and multiple posterior synechiae, all in the context of an anterior uveitis.
