Reconsideration of the anatomy of sling left pulmonary artery: the association of one form with bridging bronchus and imperforate anus. Anatomic and diagnostic aspects.

In sling (retrotracheal) left pulmonary artery (SLPA), the tracheobronchial pattern is generally considered basically normal. Analysis of dissected specimens and/or bronchograms and other preparations from five studied and 32 reported patients suggests that there are two different forms of SLPA: (1) types 1A and B, with normal TB pattern [with (A) or without (B) a right pre-eparterial (tracheal bronchus)], and the aberrant left pulmonary artery causing TB compression. The tracheal bifurcation in type 1 SLPA is usually demonstrable at the fourth to fifth thoracic vertebral level; (2A) SLPA type

[Morphology and development of the cranium of Felis silvestris f. catus Linné 1758--a contribution to the comparative anatomy of the Carnivora. II. Orbitotemporal region].

In Felis 1, the orbitotemporal region is very compressed in rostrocaudal direction. As a result, most structures are tightly pressed together. Continuing development towards the stage of Felis 2, the cranium becomes remarkably elongated in this region. In early embryonic stage, Felis builds up a primary side wall, being remarkable complete. The following development towards Felis 1 and 2 gives an interesting example for the elements changing their configuration and position during ontogenesis and thereby illustrates the problems of interpreting these conditions phylogenetically and systematica

The anatomy of the fasciae of the face and neck with particular reference to the spread and treatment of intraoral infections (Ludwig's) that have progressed into adjacent fascial spaces.

Descriptions of the fasciae of the lower half of the face and of the adjacent cervical fasciae have long been puzzling and descriptively much too complex. For this reason, medical students, young medical and dental practitioners, and at times even senior surgeons frequently do not understand the anatomy of the cervicofacial fasciae, which plays such an important role in the spread and subsequent final localization of primary intraoral infections. This article attempts to simplify the descriptions of these fasciae, in particular, their sites of origin and insertion.

Radiological observations during transpyloric tube feeding in infants of low birth weight. Perforation of the duodenum and variations in normal duodenal anatomy.

Perforation of the duodenum is a serious complication of transpyloric tube feeding in infants of low birth weight. Polyvinyl chloride and (l … ently incompatible with the expected anatomical course. Contrast examination may demonstrate normal anatomy or mobility of the distal duodenal loop as an adaptation to rigidity of the tube. The possibility of perforation appears to be increased at or adjacent to the flexures.

A new concept of the anatomy of the anal sphincter mechanism and the physiology of defecation. X. Anorectal sinus and band: anatomic nature and surgical significance.

A study, comprising dissection and microscopic examination of the pectinate area with special consideration to anal glands, was performed in 29 cadavers varying from fully mature neonatal deaths to 52 years of age. At the junction of the anal canal proper with the rectal neck, an "anorectal sinus" (a submucosal anal circumferential depression) was identified in 18 specimens; in 6 specimens, the anorectal sinus was replaced by a fibroepithelial band ("anorectal band"); in 5 specimens, the anorectal sinus was absent, and in 3 of the 5 specimens only scattered epithelial cells ("epithelial debris

Effectiveness of three-dimensional printed cardiac models in teaching congenital heart anatomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Congenital heart disease challenges spatial understanding. 3D printed cardiac models are increasingly used, but randomized quantitative evidence remains limited. This review and meta-analysis evaluated their effectiveness for teaching congenital heart anatomy. PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched through November 12, 2025. RCTs comparing 3D-printed cardiac models with conventional instruction were included. The primary outcome was objective knowledge performance. SMDs were pooled using random-effects REML models. Risk of bias was assessed with RoB 2 and the certainty of evi…

Xylem anatomy and pit architecture but not perforation-plate types shape hydraulic strategies against hypersaline and drought stress in eight woody mangroves.

Mangrove species mainly inhabit tropical and subtropical intertidal zones, where they suffer periodic tidal inundation. They display diverse perforation-plate types and pit structures; however, the extent to which these anatomical features contribute to their adaptation to coastal environments remains unclear. In this study, we quantified 27 traits, representing hydraulics, anatomy and pit characteristics, in eight woody mangrove species from Hainan, Southern China, including four simple-perforation (SI) and four scalariform-perforation (SC) plate species. All species exhibited high xylem embo…

Expert Survey on Chyle Leakage After Pancreaticoduodenectomy: The Precision Anatomy for Minimally Invasive Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery (PAM-HBP Surgery) Project 2024.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Chyle leakage (CL) after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) remains an underestimated complication with a consistent incidence. This expert survey analyzed its occurrence from anatomical and surgical perspectives. METHODS: A structured survey was distributed to 57 surgeons from 10 countries, with extensive experience in open and minimally-invasive pancreatectomy. RESULTS: Most experts reported CL incidence as: open ≥ laparoscopic, open > robotic, and laparoscopic = robotic. They identified three major anatomical pitfalls: (i) the transverse mesocolon on the ventral side of the

Technical feasibility of an angle-free ultrasound-assisted approach for challenging lumbar puncture in complex spinal anatomy: a two-patient case series.

BACKGROUND: Lumbar puncture is particularly challenging in patients with abnormal spinal anatomy, such as severe scoliosis or obesity. Conventional ultrasound‑assisted neuraxial techniques have two fundamental limitations: inaccurate projection of the probe's geometric center onto the skin when the probe is tilted and difficulty replicating the exact probe angle during needle insertion. These limitations often result in multiple needle passes, prolonged procedure time, and increased patient discomfort and complication risk. We developed an ultrasound‑assisted technique designed to standardize …

Acute Clinical Decline in Anterior Convexity Dural Arteriovenous Fistula Highlighting the Role of Bridging Vein Anatomy: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Convexity dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVF) are a rare arteriovenous shunt disorder, typically classified as Borden type Ⅲ with cortical venous reflux. We describe the possibility that variations in venous drainage patterns related to lesion location may influence the clinical course of convexity dAVF. An 80-year-old man presented with progressive motor aphasia and dysarthria. Magnetic resonance fluid-attenuated inversion recovery imaging demonstrated hyperintensity in the left frontal lobe. Cerebral angiography revealed a Borden type Ⅲ convexity dAVF at the coronal suture level with retrogr
