Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS) and Psychological Ill-Being in Young Adults Using the Adult Concentration Inventory (ACI).

Background: Young adulthood is a demanding developmental stage, in that individuals are often faced with making major and long-lasting decisions related to career and family. This is also a heightened time of mental health difficulties. There is recent evidence that cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS; previously sluggish cognitive tempo) may also be more prevalent in young adults and associated with poorer functioning. However, the relation between CDS symptoms and anxiety, depression, stress, and insomnia remains insufficiently investigated among young adults. Given this, the aims of the p

The Blood-Brain Barrier as an Integration Hub in Alzheimer's Disease: How Microbiota Metabolites Modulate Central Signal Processing.

BACKGROUND: While both gut-brain axis dysfunction and blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown are documented in Alzheimer's disease (AD), current research treats these as separate phenomena. However, emerging evidence suggests that the BBB may function as an active integration interface that processes microbiota-derived metabolites and thereby potentially modulates how peripheral signals influence cognitive health. OBJECTIVE: This review synthesizes current evidence on microbiota metabolites as modulators of BBB integration capacity, discussing how such mechanisms may contribute to variability in

Cell type-specific contributions to impaired blood-brain barrier and cerebral metabolism in presymptomatic 5XFAD mice.

Altered cerebral metabolism and blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction are emerging as critical contributors to the preclinical phase of Alzheimer's disease (AD), underscoring their role in early pathogenesis. To identify sensitive biomarkers before irreversible neuronal loss and cognitive decline, we examined 5XFAD mice at 3 months of age by applying multiple advanced MRI techniques. Arterial spin tagging based MRI revealed increased BBB permeability and water extraction fraction, indicating compromised BBB integrity at the early stage of pathogenesis in 5×FAD mice. Despite preserved cerebral

Inhibition of soluble epoxide hydrolase ameliorates cerebral blood flow autoregulation and cognition in alzheimer's disease and diabetes-related dementia rat models.

Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD) pose major global healthcare challenges, with diabetes mellitus (DM) being a key risk factor. Both AD and DM-related ADRD are characterized by reduced cerebral blood flow, although the exact mechanisms remain unclear. We previously identified compromised cerebral hemodynamics as early signs in TgF344-AD and type 2 DM-ADRD (T2DN) rat models. Genome-wide studies have linked AD/ADRD to SNPs in soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH). This study explored the effects of sEH inhibition with TPPU on cerebral vascular function and cogniti

miR-365a-3p Alleviates Isoflurane-Induced Neuroinflammation and Cognitive Impairment by Targeting MyD88 to Inhibit NF-κB Signaling.

Isoflurane (ISO) exposure is associated with neuroinflammation and postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in aged populations, although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to determine whether ISO-induced cognitive decline involves miR-365a-3p and its downstream signaling targets. Aged rats were exposed to ISO to establish a POCD model. Cognitive and motor functions were evaluated using Morris water maze tests and neurological scoring. The expression of miR-365a-3p, inflammatory factors, synaptic proteins, and apoptotic markers in the hippocampus was measured by qRT-
