This study examined whether activation of group I metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) could modulate synaptic inhibition of spinal motoneurons in the neonatal rat isolated spinal cord. Recurrent inhibitory postsynaptic potentials (IPSPs) generated by Renshaw cells were evoked via antidromic stimulation of motor axon collaterals and recorded intracellularly from lumbar motoneurons. DESIGN: Interventional case series.
METHODS: Fifteen eyes of 15 adult patients who underwent standard outpatient phacoemulsification cataract surgery with posterior chamber intraocular lens insertion with subsequent improvement of best-corrected visual acuity underwent Accumap testing before and after cataract extraction. Bilateral optic nerve injury is a rare condition and is reported in 5-6 percent of all optic nerve injuries. However, there is no published … al fossa fracture and opacity of paranasal sinuses were recorded in a third of the patients. Visual evoked potentials were recorded in 27 patients. Improvement in vision was noticed in 23 patients (74 percent). However, among the 62 eyes, 39 eyes showed improvement (62.8 percent). Possible reasons for better outcome in bilateral optic nerve injury are discussed.

In 4 patients with a complete upper limb palsy due to traumatic cervical root avulsion, surgical anastomosis of intercostal to musculocutaneous nerves was performed to restore function in the biceps brachii muscle. We report on a macrosomic newborn girl with albinism, a black lock at the right temporo-occipital region, and retinal depigmentation. Bilateral deafness was confirmed by brainstem auditory-evoked potentials. In addition, the infant had a severe defect of intestinal innervation. Biopsy showed aganglionosis of the large intestine, and total absence of neurocytes and nerve fibers in the small intestine, indicating a total lack of sympathetic and parasympathetic innervation.
