Antimicrobial resistance of bacterial pathogens isolated from the infections of post maxillofacial surgery.

Inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions contributed to a global issue of antimicrobial resistance. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of bacterial pathogens and antimicrobial resistance isolated from maxillofacial infections (MIs). Two hundred and twenty-two patients with different MIs were included in this study. Swab samples were taken from the site of infections. Samples were cultured, and isolated bacteria were identified using various biochemical tests. Antimicrobial resistance patterns of isolates were assessed by the disk diffusion method. The mean age of the patients was 50.8 yea

Escherichia coli Is Overtaking Group B Streptococcus in Early-Onset Neonatal Sepsis.

The widespread use of intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis (IAP) to prevent group B streptococcus (GBS) early-onset sepsis (EOS) is changing the epidemiology of EOS. Italian prospective area-based surveillance data (from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2020) were used, from which we identified 64 cases of culture-proven EOS (E. coli, n = 39; GBS, n = 25) among 159,898 live births (annual incidence rates of 0.24 and 0.16 per 1000, respectively). Approximately 10% of E. coli isolates were resistant to both gentamicin and ampicillin. Five neonates died; among them, four were born very pre-term (E. co

Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance determinants in clinical bacterial pathogens isolated from the Western Region of Ghana: a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: quinolones are critically important antibiotics that are reserved for treating very severe infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens. However, their indiscriminate uses have resulted in an increased number of resistant strains in many parts of the world including Ghana. We determined the quinolone resistance profile of Gram-negative bacterial pathogens and characterized the underlying molecular determinants of resistance. METHODS: Gram-negative pathogens obtained from clinical specimens at three hospital laboratories were tested for resistance to quinolones an

Differences in the distribution of pathogens and antimicrobial resistance in bloodstream infections in migrants compared with non-migrants in Denmark.

BACKGROUND: We wish to study disparities in bloodstream infections in migrants and non-migrants by comparing the distribution of pathogens and their resistance patterns in long-term migrants with that in non-migrants in Denmark. METHODS: The study is based on a cohort of migrants, who received residency in Denmark between 1993 and 2015 and a control group of non-migrants. The cohort was linked to a database of bloodstream infections from 2000 to 2015 covering two regions in Denmark. First-time bloodstream infections in individuals ≥18 years of age at the time of sampling were included. We cal

Influence of PRGF and PRF on postextractive alveolus regeneration: a randomised controlled trial.

OBJECTIVES: Healing of postextraction alveolus is a complex process that involves soft and hard tissue regeneration. Pain, swelling, difficulty in opening the mouth, delayed bone tissue healing, alveolitis, and horizontal or vertical resorption of bone tissue are the main problems that impact on consequent treatment. Blood concentrates PRGF (plasma rich in growth factors) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin), which are rich in growth factors, create better conditions for postextraction alveolus healing, enhance quality of soft tissues and bone regeneration, and decrease pain. The study objective w
