A new human GR gene sequence (hGR 1Ap/e), which is distinct from the previously identified human GR promoter and coding sequences, has been isolated and characterized. The hGR 1Ap/e sequence is approximately 31 kbp upstream of the human GR coding sequence. We prospectively analyzed outcomes of haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation using αβ+ T-cell receptor/CD19+ depleted grafts. Sixty-three transplantations were performed in 60 patients. Twenty-eight patients were diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), 27 patients were diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, and in eight other hematological malignancies were diagnosed. Invasive fungal infections, usually Aspergillus and Candida, represent a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with malignant haematological diseases, but in the last years rare fungal infections have more frequently been reported. Here, we report the clinical history of three patients affected with haematological malignancies who developed an infection caused by Geotrichum (G.) clavatum. In vivo T cell depletion with 100 mg alemtuzumab prevents graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in reduced intensity conditioned transplants but is associated with delayed immune reconstitution, a higher risk of infection and relapse. Alemtuzumab, a humanized anti-CD52 monoclonal antibody, is used in patients with refractory chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). We report results in health care with alemtuzumab on consecutive, advanced-stage patients from a well-defined geographical region. Records from 1,301 patients (Stockholm-Cancer-Registry 1991-2010) identified 56 relapsed/refractory patients treated with alemtuzumab. Median age was 69 years, 88 % had advanced Rai-stage with median 3 prior therapies. One fourth had bulky lymphadenopathy and 73 % were refractory to purine analogues. INTRODUCTION: Invasive aspergillosis is a life-threatening infectious complication in hematological patients undergoing immunosuppressive chemotherapy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report 29 cases of invasive aspergillosis diagnosed in the Sousse Farhat Hached hospital Hematology unit, Tunisia, between 2002 and 2010.
